Dan “Blather” May Seek to Depose President Bush in CBS Lawsuit
Dan Rather in an apparent attempt to make himself look even more foolish (if that’s possible) alluded to the fact that he may try and call President Bush as a witness in his lawsuit against CBS.
Rather was asked by Carol Joynt, host of the “Q&A CafĂ©” held at Nathans restaurant:
Rather said “I’d like not to answer the question,” leaving both Joynt and audience members wondering whether the newsman has Bush in his sights.” Joynt later told Yeas & Nays, “From the look in his eye — and he gave me a definite Ratheresque look — I got the impression he will call the president as a witness. Possibly both of them: 41 and 43. He implied the suit is not against them, but what the suit is about stems directly from his antagonistic relationship with them.”
Then Joynt asked the disgraced newsman if he thought President Bush hated him…
Rather responded by saying that “hate is a strong word.” Then, he began to well up. “You’ve never met anybody who had more respect for the presidency than I do,” said Rather, choking back tears. He stood by his 2004 story, saying “we got the truth, but we left ourselves vulnerable.”
Rather then went on the blather about corporate influence in newsrooms and all the rest of it. I think most people can see that Rather let his own liberal ideology and dislike for President Bush get in the way of his journalistic judgement.
He wanted those phony Bush National Guard documents to be genuine so badly, but clearly they were not. The whole thing was cleverly timed to air just before the election in a last ditch effort to swing the election in Kerry’s favor.
Instead, it exposed Dan Rather for the liberal we all knew he was. President Bush won his re-election and Dan Rather lost his credibility, his integrity, and his job.
