Joe Lieberman To Endorse John McCain For President
Senator Joe Lieberman, an independent who was the Democrats’ 2000 vice presidential nominee, is scheduled to announce his support for John McCain at a town hall meeting Monday morning in Hillsborough.
A Lieberman adviser said the senator decided to back McCain despite being a Republican because he believes his colleague from Arizona “has the best chance of uniting the country in its fight against Islamic terrorism.”
McCain and Lieberman have been close friends for years and have emerged over the last several years as two of the most outspoken proponents of the war in Iraq.
Lieberman’s support for the war cost him his party’s Senate nomination in 2006 as radical anti-war forces from across the country rallied behind businessman and political lightweight Ned Lamont to oust him. In the end it was Lieberman who got the last laugh, running as an independent for re-election and easily winning.
Among far-left Democrats hatred for Joe Lieberman runs a strong third after George Bush and Dick Cheney, and his support for McCain will no doubt deepen that hatred.
Joe Lieberman is one of only a fraction of Democrats with any sanity left. Unfortunately, the Democratic party has largely been hi-jacked by shrill, anti-war, radicals with a dangerous and naive agenda for America.
This new radical base has attempted expel or at least marginalize any members who fail to subscribe to the new far left agenda. Lieberman is one of the few remaining Democrats who represent the old centrist Democratic party that disagreed on policy issues with Republicans, but could be counted on to come together on matters of national security.
Lieberman has shown courage and integrity that is rare in politicians these days. He has been a supporter of the Iraq war not only when it was popular, but when it was unpopular.
His support of John McCain should will be seen as very appealing to many independents and Republicans, and could potentially pave the way for a possible McCain/Lieberman ticket election season.
