Berkeley City Council Tells Marines To Leave
The Berkeley City Council voted 6-3 Tuesday night to tell the U.S. Marines that its Shattuck Avenue recruiting station “is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders.”
Let me repeat that, the Berkeley City Council regards the United States Marines as “unwelcome intruders.”
In addition, the council voted to explore enforcing its law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation against the Marines because of the military’s don’t ask, don’t tell policy. And it officially encouraged the women’s peace group Code Pink to impede the work of the Marines in the city by protesting in front of the station.
In a separate item, the council voted 8-1 to give Code Pink a designated parking space in front of the recruiting station once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week from noon to 4 p.m.
Here’s what Berkeley’s Mayor had to say:
“I believe in the Code Pink cause. The Marines don’t belong here, they shouldn’t have come here, and they should leave,” said Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates after votes were cast.
Mayor Bates has it all wrong. It is he who doesn’t belong here and shouldn’t have come here. It is he who should not only leave Berkeley, but leave the United States.
We don’t need disgraceful cowards in this country. Mayor Bates and the entire City Council deserve to be spit on for disrespecting our military.
In a perfect world we could lock those Code Pink bitches up for good. Encouraging those traitorous broads to in effect drive the Marines out of town is totally outrageous and shameful.
All Federal money should be immediately cut off for the city. If they are going to pursue a disgraceful agenda, then they should find a way to be a self-sustaining.

Top Al-Qaeda Commander Killed
One of Al-Qaeda’s top commanders in Afghanistan and a key liaison with the Taliban, Abu Laith al-Libi, was killed according to a Web site used by militant groups.
Pakistani intelligence officials and local residents said that a missile hit a compound in a village about 2.5 miles outside Mir Ali in North Waziristan late Monday or early Tuesday, destroying the facility.
Residents said they were not allowed to approach the site of the blast and the Pakistan government and military said they did not know who fired the missile. Local officials said that foreigners were targeted in the attack.
A knowledgeable Western official said that “it appears at this point that Al-Libi has met his demise,” but declined to talk about the circumstances. “It was a major success in taking one of the top terrorists in the world off the street,” the official said. He added that the death occurred “within the last few days.”
This was apparently not your average terror leader, but rather a central figure in the Al-Qaeda organization. Abu Laith al-Libi was an Al-Qaeda training camp leader featured in numerous Internet videos.
He is also believed to be behind a Feb. 2007 bombing at Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan during a visit by V.P. Dick Cheney that killed 23 people.
Al-Libi was among the 12 most wanted terrorists with a $200,000 dollar reward on his head.
All this business about the Pakistani ISI not knowing who fired the missile is comical, but the current political climate in Pakistan certainly justifies such statements.
The real story is one that has played out several times on Pakistani soil. U.S. forces are not allowed to openly operate in Pakistan, but an agreement was reached several years ago with Musharraf to allow Predator drones to track terrorists 24 hours a day in bad weather and good.
These are not your average Predator surveillance drones however, these are a special armed version called “Reapers” that are equipped with either Hellfire missiles or 500 lb. JDAM bombs.
The Reapers criss-cross the tribal regions in Pakistan searching for wanted terrorists and when one is spotted, what follows can best be described as “swift American justice.”
There is a high degree of probability that when Osama bin Laden is eventually “brought to justice” it will be in much the same fashion.

Schwarzenegger To Endorse McCain
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will endorse John McCain on today, giving a boost to the Republican presidential front-runner days before the big California primary.
The two will appear at a news conference after touring a Los Angeles-based solar energy company and the governor will make his endorsement official, his senior aides confirmed.
Schwarzenegger’s endorsement comes as McCain heads toward the nomination, the only Republican candidate to have won three hotly contested primaries in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida since voting began earlier this month.
This latest endorsement is another setback for Mitt Romney. Although he certainly looks Presidential and has maintained a conservative message throughout the campaign, Romney’s message for some reason isn’t resonating with voters.
Even if some conservatives have doubts about Romney, staunch Republicans have big doubts about John McCain because of his tendency to break from the party when key votes are at stake.
So it would seem that Romney could really use that to his advantage, but for the moment it looks like McCain just about has a lock on the nomination.

Britney Spears Taken From Home And Placed On “Psychiatric Hold”

TMZ has broken story after story in the middle of the night, detailing the second commitment of Britney Spears that occurred in the last few hours. For all of you who have just logged on, here’s a summary:
Last night, Britney’s new psychiatrist went to her home and felt she was a danger to herself and others — partly because of her reckless driving and partly because of her “downhill behavior.” As a result, the shrink launched a plan (days in the making) to have Britney committed to UCLA Medical Center by calling the cops.
Sources tell us the cops knew it was coming. In fact, the plan was for cops and paramedics to take Britney away the night before, but it was scrubbed. Last night, it all went down according to plan. Cops even used code to minimize craziness in transporting Britney to the hospital. Over the police radio, she was referred to as “The Package.”
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ a LA County Superior Court judge has just signed a “5150,” meaning Britney Spears is on a three-day psychiatric hold at the UCLA Medical Center.
We’re told there is a “good possibility” that it will be extended to 14 days. We’ve also learned there have been several parallel attempts to get Britney on a 5150. Her lawyers, Anne Kiley and Tara Scott, secured a new psychiatrist late last week — he’s the one who triggered the 5150 last night.
At the same time, we’re told Britney’s mother, father and brother have been “working closely with the LAPD for weeks” to get her back in for psychiatric care. There is a dogfight now between Britney’s family and Sam Lutfi over who will make medical decisions, however that fight is now put on hold because the judge now makes the call.
Once the psychiatric hold ends, something has to give.
We’ve seen too many young celebrities die recently, and thankfully Britney’s family is doing everything in their power to prevent yet another tragedy from occurring. The paparazzi are like vultures just waiting to feed on her corpse and give the entire world a front row seat.

New Bogus Survey Claims 1 Million Dead In Iraq
Not another bogus study…
More than one million Iraqis have died as a result of the conflict in their country since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, according to research conducted by one of Britain’s leading polling groups.
It was only two weeks ago that another study citing 650,000 dead was debunked, now we’re supposed to believe it’s a million?
I fully expect to see a study at the end of Bush’s term that claims there are no longer any people still alive in Iraq. Every last Iraqi has in fact been killed and the only people left are U.S. soldiers.

Ahmadinejad: “Accept Israel’s imminent collapse”
Everyone’s favorite little dictator, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, called on the West Wednesday to acknowledge Israel’s “imminent collapse.”
Speaking to a crowd on a visit to the southern port of Bushehr, where Iran’s first light-water nuclear power plant is being built by Russia, Ahmadinejad further incited his listeners to “stop supporting the Zionists, as [their] regime reached its final stage.”
“Accept that the life of Zionists will sooner or later come to an end,” the Iranian president said in a televised speech.
He added, “What we have right now is the last chapter [of Israeli atrocities] which the Palestinians and regional nations will confront and eventually turn in Palestine’s favor.”
Middle Eastern dictators seem to be short on good common sense. All a dictator has to do is look at where Saddam is right now to clearly see where all that threatening rhetoric gets you.
Ahmadinejad is truly delusional if he really believes that Israel will just back and allow his thuggish regime to complete its nuclear weapons program and continue making outrageous threats.

John Edwards To Drop Out Of Presidential Race
The AP is reporting that John Edwards will be dropping out of the Presidential race. Edwards will formally announce his withdrawal at 1 p.m. EST in New Orleans, a campaign official said.
The two-time White House candidate notified a close circle of senior advisers that he planned to make the announcement at a 1 p.m. EST event in New Orleans that had been billed as a speech on poverty, according to two of his advisers. The decision came after Edwards lost the four states to hold nominating contests so far to rivals who stole the spotlight from the beginning—Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.
The former North Carolina senator will not immediately endorse either candidate in what is now a two-person race for the Democratic nomination, said one adviser, who spoke on a condition of anonymity in advance of the announcement.
Thank god America won’t be forced to listen to anymore nonsense out of John Edwards. He is without a doubt the phoniest candidate to run for President in years.
His “two America’s” speech is a load of crap. To listen to John Edwards you would think most Americans are destitute and homeless. The only thing John Edwards did was run around the country pandering to far-left organizations and unions.
There’s just something about a guy who lives in a 30,000 sq. ft. home and gets $500 haircuts going on so called “poverty tours” that just rings hollow.
I have no problem with the Senator being a rich man. It’s when a rich man tells me that the same system that enabled him to become rich is now suddenly corrupt, broken, and rigged. Strange how it only broke after he made his fortune.
If John Edwards wants to solve poverty he should start with the trailer park across the street from his mansion. His own neighbors have expressed nothing but contempt for him and say he has never even said hello.
The truth is that John Edwards is no great truth teller. He’s just a seasoned trial lawyer who uses words that work. He knows exactly what to say to make a left-wingers go weak in the knees.
In short, you can sum up the John Edwards candidacy by saying he ran a campaign that was long on left-wing propaganda and short on facts.

Lieberman Rules Out Running With McCain
Joe Lieberman is ruling out even the possibility of being John McCain’s running mate this election season.
“No, I’d tell him, ‘Thanks, John, I’ve been there, I’ve done that. You can find much better,’” Lieberman told The Associated Press during an interview Tuesday in his Senate office. “I’m not seeking anything else.”
Lieberman’s endorsement of McCain in December and the campaigning he since has done in states such as New Hampshire, Michigan, South Carolina and Florida have led to speculation that the Arizona senator might choose Lieberman as his running mate.
I personally think it would be quite make for a very interesting ticket. Republicans have a lot of respect for Joe Lieberman, because he’s one of the last remaining Democrats that isn’t a left-wing lunatic.
