Anti-War Groups Admit Defeat, Change Tactics

January 17, 2008 · Filed Under Politics

According to the Politico, after a series of legislative defeats in 2007 that saw the year end with more U.S. troops in Iraq than when it began, a coalition of anti-war groups is finally backing away from its drive to cut funding for the war and force Congress to pass timelines for bringing U.S. troops home.

The groups instead plan to lower their sights and push for legislation to prevent President Bush from entering into a long-term agreement with the Iraqi government that could keep significant numbers of troops in Iraq for years to come.

“There was a consensus that last year was not productive,” John Isaacs, executive director of Council for a Livable World, said of a meeting attended by a coalition of anti-war groups last week. “Our expectations were dashed.”

The meeting was attended by 20 representatives of various high profile anti-war groups such as MoveOn.org, and Americans Against Escalation in Iraq.

These anti-war thugs might actually do some good if they put millions of dollars into helping people in this country who are poor or sick, instead of wasting it on trying to ensure America’s defeat in Iraq.

Whether these idiots like it or not, we’re gonna be in Iraq for decades and we’re gonna have permanent bases there just like we do in Japan, South Korea, Kuwait, and elsewhere.
