U.S. Intelligence chief Mike McConnell said today that in the face of imminent defeat in Iraq, Al-Qaeda is moving out of Iraq and establishing cells in other countries.
Al-Qaeda, increasingly tamped down in Iraq, is establishing cells in other countries as Osama bin Laden’s organization uses Pakistan’s tribal region to train for attacks in Afghanistan, the Middle East, Africa and the United States, the U.S. intelligence chief said Tuesday.
He went on to say that fewer than 100 terrorists have moved from Iraq to establish cells in other countries, but that kind of movement is on the rise.
