Mitt Romney gave a speech moments ago in which he declared that he is stepping aside. He said in effect that what’s important to him is keeping a liberal out of the White House.
He felt that his staying in the race would only muddy the waters and keep the GOP from uniting around a single candidate to defeat Obama or Hillary.
Romney’s exit from the race means that John McCain will indeed be the 2008 Republican nominee for President. McCain certainly has a lot of work to do if he’s to get the support of the right-wing of the Republican party, but I believe at the end of the day he will get their support.
