The principal should have researched the organization. Regardless of her reputation, she should act responsibly. She is the "gate-keeper" to the school and should be aware of who and what her students are exposed to. This has nothing to do with what a good leader she was in the past, she needs to be a good leader at all times...post 911 especially. She holds a very important position of leadership and should be held accountable for her actions.

Lowe was a failed leader and FISD is much better off without her. If we wanted radical Muslims from CAIR talking to our kids we would have said so.

Folks, first of all, if you are going to be taken seriously please learn to spell the word "principal" correctly. Secondly, this principal is one of the best in her field and FJH, its students and the town have lost a great deal with her departure.
I also, am a long-time Friendswood resident and Ms. Lowe was my boss for two years. I count myself lucky to have had her guidance and wish her luck at her new position in HISD.

Kids are more apt to believe something when it's presented in this type of format, i.e. a live presentation. This is 'like' preaching to them...

When you can't argue against the article, argue against the source. Clearly a bastion of credibility.

Carl,

Your absolutely right. Notice the stony silence from the ACLU on this whole thing.

If two pastors would have come to this school to teach the kids about Jesus, the ACLU would be trying to close down the school.

But since it wasn't Christianity being discussed it's okay with them.

in a day and age where you can't have a Christmas Tree in a public classroom because it might offend a person of a non Christian faith,no student should be forced to attend an assembly where any religion is discussed, unless all religions are included. Just imagine the outrage that would have erupted if Baptist,or a Jew,or any other religion asked for time to have a captive audience of children to discuss their faith...

Could it be that the principle honestly did not know that the CAIR was a suspect group? The name sounds harmless enough, so perhaps the principle did not think anything of it.

I have no objection to learning about basic Muslim beliefs, and in fact when I was in Catholic school we also learned the 5 pillars of Islam, as well as many other details about Islam. I am doubting that the children were being catechized or evangelized in any way, as I can't imagine that many teachers or prinicples in this country would even consider that.
