Minority Journalists Openly Cheer Obama At UNITY Event
Left-wing bias in the media is so common at this point it’s almost not worth reporting. I say almost, because sometimes the bias is so egregious that it simply has to be pointed out. Such was the case in Chicago yesterday when Barack Obama spoke to the minority journalists of UNITY.
UNITY is a far-left advocacy group for minority journalists. Their mission is allegedly to make sure people of color are treated fairly in the media. Since we all know Barack Obama hasn’t been treated fairly in the media (wink, wink) it only makes sense that he would speak with them.
While his speaking to UNITY isn’t really all that newsworthy, the behavior of the audience most definitely was. Since UNITY is an organization founded for and by journalists, one can imagine the audience being mostly journalists right?
Based on the repeated cheering, clapping, and standing ovations Barry received, I’m guessing journalists of color also have their own journalistic standards. We all know the media is solidly in the tank for Obama, but is literally cheering for him okay now too?
UNITY event organizers appear to be keenly aware of how bad it looks to most clear thinking people, because they urged the audience to make every effort to maintain a “professional decorum” since the speech would be broadcast live.
Ironically, just prior to Obama’s speech they had a panel discussion on objectivity in the media and whether journalists should clap and cheer for candidates.
Some UNITY members might argue that since Barry is black, it’s a special circumstance and journalists of color should be given a pass to openly worship him. However, UNITY has a history of this kind of unprofessional behavior.
In 2004, John Kerry was treated in a similar fashion when he spoke before the group. He too was given a standing ovation by journalists. The crowd booed and hissed when he spoke of the horned one who currently occupies The White House.
UNITY is simply a mouthpiece for the Democratic party and any reporting done by one of its members should be eyed with extreme skepticism. Journalists who are members of UNITY are not interested in reporting the facts, they’re interested in getting Democrats elected.

I was at the forum with Senator Obama. I was also at the appearances of Senator John Kerry and President Bush at Unity 2004.
Being keenly aware of how it would look if journalists were hooting and hollering for Obama, I looked around the room as he came on the stage. What I saw was journalists politely applauding. It was much more subdued that the reception of Kerry in 2004. The few people who were screaming and shouting this time were not journalists, they were associate members, sponsors and others who do not cover news.
On the whole, it’s no different than the way the White House correspondents — and there are precious few people of color in that elite group — cheer and fawn at the annual correspondents dinner. Nor is it different than newspaper editors and publishers cheering for President Bush at the American Society of Newspaper Editors convention.
I find it interesting that you think Unity is simply a mouthpiece for the Democratic Party. By the same logic would you say that Fox News is a mouthpiece for the GOP and the White House?
If you’re saying that African American, Hispanic American, Asian American or Native American journalists can’t be unbiased in their coverage of Obama, do you question whether White American journalists can be unbiased in their coverage of John McCain?
And who is Barry?

I don’t think the color of the journalists has any relevance. The media on the whole is in the tank for Obama regardless of skin color. To answer your other question, I don’t think white journalists worry about how they cover McCain because they’re too busy trying to get Obama elected. If you don’t know who Barry is, then you sir need to re-read the holy scripture ‘Dreams of My Father’ by Barack Obama. In it his holiness says that until he went to college, he was known to friends and family as ‘Barry’ instead of Barack.
Ahh! Haven’t read it, haven’t had time. Have a good one.
