Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska was indicted today on seven counts of hiding gifts. Stevens allegedly received more than $250,000 dollars in gifts and services from several companies.

Sen. Ted Stevens, the nation’s longest-serving Republican senator and a major figure in Alaska politics since before statehood, was indicted Tuesday on seven counts of failing to disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars in services from an oil services company that helped renovate his home.

Stevens is the longest serving GOP Senator and the first sitting U.S. Senator to be indicted since 1993 according to the AP. Stevens is also the Senator responsible for the now legendary earmark known as the “bridge to nowhere.”
