When you strip away the distractions we have Kissinger agreeing with Obama on the key point, that the U.S. should agree to negotiate with countries such as Iran without preconditions. Obama seems to say that the meeting should be at the presidential level and on that point alone Kissinger disagrees. The issue of preconditions, not the level of meeting, has been the major change in approach implemented by the Bush administration.

John McCain has never said he was against low level meetings with Iran. The dispute from the beginning has been whether it’s appropriate for the President of the United States to personally meet with Ahmadinejad. Obama incorrectly believes it is, while wiser and more experienced people believe it’s not.
Barack Obama’s assertion during the debate about Henry Kissinger’s position was flat out wrong.

In Katie Couric’s interview with Palin, Couric tried to make it look like Palin didn’t know what she was talking about in regards to Henry Kissinger’s stance on meeting certain leaders without preconditions. It turned out that Couric lied and Palin was right.
