I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. I agree with you that Powell sounded like he put a lot of thought into what he said. I don’t mean to suggest he was being disingenuous, just that he’s wrong.

I understand that you think he’s a pragmatist and all that. I wish I could believe that. However, absolutely nothing in his past suggests that to be the case.

Literally from the time he became a community organizer in Chicago until he decided to run for president, he’s surrounded himself exclusively with the most left-wing fringe elements of society.

The fact that Ayres is an unrepentant terrorist is not even the issue. The issue is that Ayres is a lunatic with insane views about education and this country in general. Obama helped him fund his radical education agenda in Chicago, which means he shares the same radical beliefs about education. I cannot imagine even standing in the same room with a despicable character like Ayres.

I also understand what you’re saying about sending a strong message to the GOP about being out of step. I don’t deny that the GOP as a party has gone awry in the last few years. However, sending a message by electing Barack Obama is not in the cards.

There will be no going back if Obama is elected with the support of a liberal congress. The nanny state policies they’ll pass will do irreversible damage to this country.

An Obama administration along with Pelosi and Reid controlled super majorities in Congress will be a secular progressive’s wet dream.

Having said that, If Obama does win I’m willing to stand behind him as our new President(as I would any President). I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for a little while to see how he governs.

Maybe you need to look a little deeper and ask yourself how Gen. Powell arrived at his decision. Clearly, if you look at his statements on Meet the Press, they were heart felt yet well reasoned. It truly pained him to do so.
I think you are totally wrong about Obama. Far from being the creature of left-wing liberals, I think he is a centerist and a pragmatist. Besides, sometimes the “wings” of one party or another become so damaged (as the Democratic Party did in the late 60s and 70s) that you need to trust in the process and send a strong message to them (in this case the Republicans)that they are out of step with mainstream America.

Hope you think more about this Chris, listen to General Powell’s statement again. (I’ve listened to it in full at least twice). I don’t think the association with Mr. Ayers is as big a deal as you have been led to believe. My God, Ambassador Ananburg served on that board with Mr. Ayers as did several other prominent Republicans. Don’t fall for the understandable spin of a campaign out of control.
