Video: Miss California Loses Miss USA Pageant After Giving “Wrong Answer” On Gay Marriage
I think it’s pretty safe to say the reason Miss California lost the Miss USA pageant last night was because of her answer on gay marriage. A question posed by none other than gay celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.
I think Miss California deserves a lot of love for being honest and not caving to political correctness. The fact is, more Americans believe marriage should be between a man and a woman than support gay marriage.
I happen to not really care one way or another about the issue. However, I think states should be able to vote on the issue and have their vote respected — whatever the outcome.
The way gays in California bully people who don’t support gay marriage is despicable and only damages their cause.

I understand your desire for marriage to be kept out of the hands of gay people, but you just happen to be very wrong here, Chris. Civil marriage is a civil right, the masses should never be allowed to ‘vote’ on the Rights of the marginalized. it’s very simple, Chris. If she did lose because of her views on civil marriage, i could care less. yes, it does take courage to be honest that you don’t want gays to have the same rights as you, but it is simply a bigoted and ignorant stance on the rights of others. sorry, you’re just wrong. if people were allowed to ‘vote’ on whether or not to free the slaves, or whether interracial couples were allowed to get married, you’d get similar results as now. just becuase you have your opinion doesn’t mean you don’t know right from wrong. and again, you’re just wrong on this one, buddy.
Actually, Chris, you’re right on with this one. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. This is a states rights issue and should be kept that way.
Hey Civil,
The comparison between gay marriage and the civil rights struggles of black people doesn’t hold up around here.
You’re full of it and most blacks think you’re full of it. That particular comparison is one of the most ludicrous and outrageous arguments I’ve ever heard.
I also find it especially ironic that is was the black community who voted overwhelmingly in favor of Prop 8.
I’ve always been ambivalent about the issue, but more or less leaning in favor of gay marriage, but the Prop 8 thing really made me take a second look.
The way many gays behaved after the vote and continue to behave makes me want to do everything to oppose gay marriage. The threats, the bullying tactics, the name calling, Sean Penn, etc.
States that wish to grant gay couples civil unions rather than marriage should be enough. With all the same rights as marriage, just without the label of marriage doesn’t compare to black slavery or oppression of any kind. To suggest otherwise is moronic and absurd.
Again, the states that wish to make gay marriage legal is fine. But when the people vote and decide to keep marriage as between a man and a woman, their vote should be respected.
Marriage is NOT a right, it’s a privilege.
Miss California was raised with a traditional belief in marriage just like the majority of Americans and she had every right to express that view. Unlike the right to marry, free speech is an actual right.
This was a loaded Question…No matter how she answered it…she would have answered it wrong…A no win…Shame on the Pageant people for asking something like that!
dawn, you’re right on this one. loaded it is. however you want to look at it, gay people with children risk losing them because of your bigoted, traditional values. whatever you think about your values, gay people also don’t have the right, currently, to see their loved ones in emergency rooms. nor do they even have the right to get a hotel room in some states together if they so choose. nor do they have the right in some states to make love. there are many other reasons to make legal gay marriage that i’m not enumerating for your traditional mind, but if you don’t think that marriage is a right, you should act on behalf of the marginalized to ensure they DO have the rights that you do think they ’should’ be ‘allowed’ to have. when was the last time you wrote your congress about the lack of rights for gay ‘civil unions’? i am not impressed with your traditional, psuedo-christian values that seem to have no depth or love for your fellow brothers and sisters.
as for your comment on ‘blacks around here’ it is not the point that others share your view. you’ve all been brainwashed to believe that others should not have the same rights as you do. people usually bully others that don’t have their power. so, ‘blacks’ have the right to marry. ‘gays’ don’t.
it doesn’t matter that you don’t ‘agree’ on the definition of marriage. it’s about others trying to live their lives in peace, and not having to answer to prejudice. again, people would NOT have voted for interracial marriages. people thought it was disgusting and wrong less than 50 years ago. now most understand the absurdity of that mentality. hoepfully, the courts will show you the absurdity of your mentality and in the future, others won’t suffer because of it.
Marriage is not a State’s rights issue, or a federal issue: it’s a spiritual and personal issue requiring no blessing from the state. Was George Washington’s marriage any less valid?
As such it is also not a privilege. People got married, via their own declarations, or before a church, long before the state became involved (which was often for the purpose of keeping white people from marrying those of other ethnicities).
If governments must recognize unions at all, then the rational fix is for government to recognize only the civil contractual aspect, and to get out of the spiritual realm: separation of church and state. The qualification to enter a contract is to be of the age of majority. And the government stops caring if you are “married”.
While I don’t see the justification for conferring special privileges to those in union over single people, companies and the state can recognize if you are united, or joined, for the purpose of joint tax returns or whatever, if they must. And marriage is back where it belongs, between you, your mate, your church, your God.
I find it somewhat shameful that people, particularly supposed freedom-loving Americans, now look for government approval for something so personal and spiritual.
Wow Civil, why are you so angry that you feel the need to tell others that they are wrong in their opinion? It is people like you that cause the problems that we have in our nation today. You are full of anger and you lash out at anyone who has an opinion different than your own. I am proud of my Christian life and beliefs and your words aren’t going to change that. I love my sister n law/nephew and cousin who are homosexuals, but I do not agree with their lifestyle. It is wrong, the Bible says so and there is nothing that supercedes God’s Word. I will pray that you receive some professional help for your anger that causes you to call people names and be disrespectful to others opinions and beliefs.
Way to go Miss California!! It is about time someone had the guts to stand up for what is morally, ethically, and biblically right! You are the Champion of the day. The bigots around here are those who say that because we believe in the traditional view of marriage we are bigots!! How can this be! They desire social acceptance but yet continue to say that unless your view doesnt change then you are a bigot! Well i say that one day we will all answer the Lord at the great white throne judgement and then justice will be served
