Dick Cheney Delivers Blistering Speech On National Security

May 21, 2009 · Filed Under U.S. News, Video, War on Terror

Dick Cheney gave an incredible speech today just moments after Barack Obama bloviated about America’s moral bearings, blah, blah, blah.

Cheney’s speech, delivered to the American Enterprise Institute, was his most complete and blistering critique of Obama’s national security policies to date.

He called out the charlatans in congress who backed the successful enhanced interrogation program in private, but now feign outrage in public and call for show trials.

Cheney reiterated the point he’s made so many times recently, that Obama’s flawed left-wing approach to fighting the war on terror is making the country less safe.

Here’s a little taste of what the former vice president had to say. I’ll post the complete speech as soon as it’s up.

The following links provide point by point analyses of Cheney’s AEI speech and Obamas speech. Make up your own mind based on substance.

I was gong to post those sites as well. It’s good to see that someone is willing to look for the truth before rushing to judgement.
    Chris Jones:
    You’re a sheep.

The real issue here is that our president lacks balls. His decision to restrict interrogations to the army field manual is one of the dumbest in history.

What we really have is a pussy in chief who lacks the stomach to do what’s necessary to protect this nation.

His pals at the ACLU don’t give a shit if more Americans die, they only care about the terrorists.

Obama is scared to release those two memos that Cheney wants. Since Americans are already in favor of enhanced interrogations, the release of the memos confirming it works would be devastating to his administration.

However, all his talk of “transparency” rings hollow since he’s only allowed 50% of the interrogation story to be made public.

Oh, and that Mcclatchy piece linked above is nothing but democrat talking points. They’re a corrupt and nearly bankrupt news outfit with zero credibility.

So any source you disagree with is “corrupt” and has “zero credibility”? The statements in the McClatchy piece are well documented by other sources. That one happened to be the most succinct. It’s Cheney who has zero credibility.
As for talking points, you are repeating the ones on rightwing sites which have less than zero credibility.

Former VP Cheney’s stated that “The interrogations were used on hardened terrorists after other efforts failed.” This testimony from FBI interrogator Ali Soufan describes the interrogation of Abu Zubayduh.

    Decide for yourself.

    Ali Soufan (former FBI interrogator):

“Al Qaida are trained to resist torture. As shocking as these techniques are to us, their training prepares them for much worse. The torture that they would receive if caught by dictatorships, for example. In a democracy, however, there is a glass ceiling that the interrogator cannot breach. And eventually, the detainee will call the interrogators bluff.”

“…this technique using the harsh interrogation methods misunderstands the threat we face from ideological Islamic extremists such as al Qaida. They are ideologically motivated. They are expecting a lot to happen to them when they get caught. The best way to deal with them is to be smart and engage with them. And that’s what provided a lot of actionable intelligence before 9/11 and after 9/11.”

“Waterboarding was not approved until August 1, 2002. Padilla, after an international manhunt in three countries, was finally arrested after he landed from Switzerland to the Chicago airport May 8, 2002. Almost 3 months before these techniques were imposed. We knew about Khalid Sheik Muhammad in April of ’02. Again waterboarding was not approved until August 1 of 2002.”

That’s what gets me. I’m not shocked by any of this. It seems reasonable that we would do whatever was necessary to get information out of these killers. I don’t give a f*ck about “moral standing in the world” or any other theoretical crap liberals think up. I just want to kill the enemy and protect the American people.

Chris, consider this scenario. A thought experiment if you will.

You are an 18 yo Yemeni or Palestinian kid. You had dreams of being a famous singer. Dreams mostly generated by your smuggled American CD’s. You love Americans because they fought the evil Russians that massacred your Afgani muslem brothers. America is powerful and all Americans are moral, rich and healthy. But you’re poor and your family members have died in a complex war that you don’t understand. You cling to a peaceful religion and hope for a less painful afterlife. A charismatic figure emerges, gives you a gun, money, and an important role in a struggle against evil. You cling to it because it gives you purpose. The charismatic figure attributes your suffering to American activities in the region. He reinterprets your religion to include fighting this great Satan by all means necessary. Somehow it all makes sense since you’ve heard of stories of atrocities. A wedding party in Afganistan massacred by an American missle. You hear of fellow muslims tortured and humiliated. You are disgusted by atrocities committed by an occupational force supported by Americans. You grow to hate. “You just want to kill the enemy and protect”… Islam! Christopher Jones, welcome to al Qaida. Congratulations you are now recruited as a freedom fighter (terrorist) in an ideological war against evil that is expected to last centuries and for which you are willing to die, since you have nothing to lose. Chris do you remember that day you wanted to be famous singer like the singer on that smuggled American CD?
