Tea Party Groups Target Kay Bailey Hutchison

Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison has incurred the wrath of tea partiers after she broke the GOP filibuster aimed at stalling Obamacare. Tea Party groups in Dallas, Austin, and Houston are rallying at the offices of Sen. Hutchison.

Last week, Republican Senate leaders organized a filibuster of a defense spending bill, though that was not the real target. Hutchison said she supported the tactic, but once Democrats gathered the 60 votes needed, she joined Democrats – and two other Republicans – to force a vote on the defense bill. This move cleared the way for work to resume on health care.

A Hutchison aide said she voted as she did to show support for the troops and noted that the filibuster would have been broken with or without her vote.

It doesn’t matter if the filibuster would have been broken with or without her — it should have been without her.

The “showing support for the troops” is a canard that plays right into the hands of democrats. Everyone knows republicans are the ones who support the troops. Democrats purposely loaded down that defense bill with crap that had nothing to do with defense, and then dared republicans to oppose it knowing they could smear them with “not supporting the troops.”

Democrats are the only ones who need to be defensive about supporting the troops. Our commitment to the military is without question. What we need to do is stand together and oppose these big spending liberals that run the show in Washington.

We must not allow ourselves to be threatened with phony smears if we don’t support some horrendous porky bill.

Hutchison needs to get the with the program.
