Engineering Diversity At The Naval Academy

diversity thumb Engineering Diversity At The Naval Academy

Michelle Malkin has a great piece on her blog about the politically correct diversity engineering taking place at the Naval Academy.

What a shame to see our military become such a cesspool of liberal social engineering and political correctness.

The United States military should be a place where one rises or falls based on personal achievement, not on skin color or religious background (think Fort Hood).

I’m so damn tired of hearing about “diversity.” The left has seized the issue of diversity and used it as a weapon to weaken our institutions. Let me be clear, I have NO problem with diversity.

I say let everyone compete on an equal playing field and may the best men and women win — whatever their skin color.

Audio: Tearful Military Wife Upset Over Obama’s Cairo Speech Calls Mark Levin

While I didn’t think Obama’s speech in Cairo was all bad, I thought it was disgraceful when he told the Muslim world that Iraq was a “war of choice.”

What kind of president tells the world that his country’s troops are dying in a pointless, frivolous war.

All those men and women busting their ass in 130 degree heat to build a democratic Iraq are really just wasting their time.

I realize left-wing dickheads like our president really do believe that, but they’re wrong.

Navy SEAL Hero Marcus Luttrell Nabs Men Who Shot His Dog

marcus luttrell 230x300 Navy SEAL Hero Marcus Luttrell Nabs Men Who Shot His Dog

This is one hell of a story. Marcus Luttrell is a retired Navy SEAL and author of the best-selling book “Lone Survivor.” Luttrell was the sole survivor of the bloodiest day in the history of the Navy SEALS when his team was ambushed by 150 Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. He was severely wounded and being hunted by insurgents in the mountains of Afghanistan when he came upon some friendly locals who hid him until he could be rescued by some Army Rangers.

Luttrell was awarded the Navy Cross for his actions in Afghanistan and has since retired to Texas. A few nights ago Luttrell was sitting up at 1:00 AM (he doesn’t sleep much at night) when he heard a gunshot outside his house. He immediately grabbed his gun and went outside to investigate and found some guys standing over his dead dog.

Suffice it to say the four guys nearly ended up like the dog…

Gates Proposes Deep Spending Cuts In Defense Budget

April 6, 2009 · Filed Under Barack Obama, Military · Comment

obama-gates-mullen

Secretary of Defense Gates is finally ready to announce his plans for the defense budget to president Obama and it’s sure to ruffle feathers on both sides of the aisle.

Among other things, Gates will recommend a halt to production of the F-22 fighter jet at 187 aircraft. Meanwhile he wants to speed-up production of the F-35 fighter jet which will eventually total 2,443 aircraft at a total price tag of around 1 trillion dollars.

I’m usually suspect of democrat administrations trying to cut military budgets, but I trust Gates to do the right thing. I think it’s an outrage that contractors like Boeing have gotten away with stealing the government blind with absurd cost overruns. The Pentagon has been in dire need of a revised procurement process for getting new weapon systems.

I agree with Gates that too many top brass at DOD are still stuck in a cold war mentality. We don’t need a shit load of new battle tanks or other conventional land based war machines.

Conventional warfare involving tank battles with uniformed armies are largely a thing of the past. We must always be prepared for that just in case, but we need to look forward and equip ourselves to better fight unconventional guerrilla conflicts.

Low Intensity conflicts in the Middle East and Africa is what the U.S. will be involved with for at least the next couple of decades.

It’s absolutely critical that America maintains military superiority over the rest of the world and whatever it costs to do that we should spend. However, there is no reason to waste hundreds of billions of dollars on weapons we don’t need, weapons that don’t work, and weapons that cost 5x what contractors promised they would.

Obama Looks To Shatter America’s Nuclear Deterrence

b83 nuclearbomb 300x150 Obama Looks To Shatter Americas Nuclear Deterrence

It looks like rolling back successful anti-terror policies isn’t the only thing on president Obama’s agenda. He also seeks to make the long held liberal fantasy of nuclear disarmament (at least for America) a reality. Time has an interesting piece looking at the policy Obama has already set in stone of “no new nuclear weapons” for America. This runs contrary to the military’s position and to that of secretary of defense Gates who has been pushing for the funding of a RRW (Reliable Replacement Warhead) program.

Gates doesn’t want “new” nuclear weapons as in additional weapons for our stockpile, but rather a new generation of warheads to replace our aging ones. The majority of our nukes are from the 1970’s and 1980’s and may no longer function correctly if it becomes necessary to use them. The plutonium core of a nuke suffers radioactive decay over time which lessens their effectiveness and can make them either not function correctly or fail to detonate entirely.

Gates argues the reason we need to have such a large stockpile of nukes now is because the Pentagon must operate on the assumption that a certain percentage of the weapons may not function correctly. If we had a new generation of warheads to replace the aging ones we could significantly cut down on the overall size of our stockpile since the new ones would be certain to work.

Obama and his liberal cronies don’t want that, because in their naive mind they hope the nukes will quit working and we can just get rid of them entirely — thus ushering in a new era of nuclear free peace around the world. That’s a nice pipe dream but it will never happen. Liberals operate on the false premise that other countries only have nukes because America has nukes. If America no longer had nukes the rest of the world wouldn’t need them. That’s of course absurd to the point of being laughable, but it’s nevertheless what the lefties believe.

Nuclear weapons are a horrible thing. I cannot imagine a reason to ever use a nuke except in response to a nuclear attack on us or our allies. Having said that, the nuclear genie is unfortunately out of the bottle and it’s never going back in. As long as a single country in the world possesses nuclear weapons or the ability to produce them, America must maintain a nuclear deterrence. Russia will NEVER give up its nukes, China will NEVER give up its nukes, Israel will NEVER EVER give up its nukes, and therefore America must always have better and badder nukes than anyone else.

Even if by some miracle every country agreed to give up nukes, you could never be sure they didn’t have a couple squirreled away somewhere. The bottom line is that America can never be caught flat footed when it comes to nukes. You don’t get a second chance to deter a nuclear attack or respond to one in kind.

Obama is determined to weaken our national security with his pinko liberal ideology of peace and love instead looking at the world the way it really is. He’s a fool to close Gitmo, he’s a fool to end harsh interrogation, and he’s a dangerous fool to weaken our nuclear deterrence.

House Legislation Would Keep Porn Mags Off Military Bases

May 6, 2008 · Filed Under Military, Porn News · 1 Comment

As important as it is to fight back against the far-left which has absolutely hijacked the Democratic party, it’s also important to fight back against far-right kooks whenever they emerge. One such far-right kook is Rep. Broun of Georgia who wants to take porn magazines away from soldiers.

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., has introduced legislation that would close a loophole in the current law that allows the sale of some sexually explicit material on military bases by lowering the threshold required to deem material “sexually explicit.”

This is in response to a Department of Defense committee that reviews materials sold on bases ruled last year that magazines such as Playboy and Penthouse are not pornographic. But Broun’s Military Honor and Decency Act includes language that could make those magazines eligible for the ban.

The new language in the law could eventually lead to a ban on magazines such as Maxim or FHM, which do not show nudity and are not pornographic in any way. Regardless of what Broun says, I can assure you that his underlying intention is to rid bases of any magazines that show even a little skin.

With all the problems this country is facing right now with high gas prices, egregious health insurance costs, rising food prices, and an overall slumping economy, it’s keeping soldiers from reading ‘Playboy’ that most concerns Rep. Broun.

Here’s his explanation:

Broun said he is concerned by the negative effects of all pornography, including an increase in the number of violent sexual crimes on military bases.

“It erodes the family as a primary building block of society,” he said, “and it denigrates the moral standing of our troops both here and abroad.”

Reading the latest issue of Swank doesn’t erode families, but untreated Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) sure as hell does.

It’s not the bloody guerrilla insurgency that our troops are currently fighting that’s causing marital problems, its gotta be the stroke books. Yeah right.

Maybe Rep. Broun should take a break from trying to legislate morality and work on making sure our soldiers are getting everything they need when they return from war.

People like Rep. Paul Broun need to quit with the self-righteous nonsense and start working on issues that actually matter.

Georgia Says Russia Shot Down Its Drone, Releases Video

April 21, 2008 · Filed Under Military, Video, World News · 1 Comment

The former Soviet Republic of Georgia is alleging that a Russian Mig-29 fighter jet illegally crossed into Georgian airspace and shot down an unmanned drone conducting routine surveillance over Georgian territory.

Russia of course completely denies the incident and calls the allegation “nonsense.”

A spokesman for Russia’s air force, when asked about the Georgian allegation, said: “Nonsense. What would a Russian jet fighter be doing over Georgian territory?”

The problem for Russia is that Georgia released high-resolution video recorded by the drone as it was being shot down. The footage which you can see above clearly shows a Mig-29 firing a missile at the drone. Russia now says the video may show a Mig-29, but it’s not from Russia.

However, considering that Georgia has no Mig-29 aircraft and neither do its closest neighbors, it’s painfully obvious that it’s a Russian aircraft. Like its Soviet predecessor, Russia denies anything that happens in the region even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Russia likes to antagonize Georgia because of its close ties to the U.S. and NATO which makes both the incident and the denial not terribly shocking.

Bush Accepts Petraeus Plan To Pause Troop Reductions

April 10, 2008 · Filed Under Military, President Bush, World News · Comment

In a speech today President Bush ordered an indefinite halt in U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq after July, embracing the key recommendations of his top war commander. Bush said Gen. David Petraeus will “have all the time he needs” to consider when more American forces could return home.

The president also announced he will try and relieve the heavy strain on the Army by reducing the length of combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan to 12 months, down from the current level of 15 months.

Petraeus Says No Troop Increases For Iraq

gen petraeus Petraeus Says No Troop Increases For Iraq

General David Petraeus enduring his second day of grilling by Congress said today that he’s not willing to commit any further troops to Iraq even if the security situation were to deteriorate.

He also repeated his plans to continue reducing the number of U.S. forces in Iraq to pre-surge levels, or about 140,000 troops. That level should be reached by this summer at which point there will be a pause in troop reductions to allow for adjustments on the ground and a hard look at the security situation across the country.

The fact that Petraeus is unwilling to even leave open the possibility for troop increases speaks to just how close to tapped out our troop rotation situation is. With more troops needed in Afghanistan, there simply isn’t anymore troops available to rotate through Iraq again even if we wanted to.

President Bush is also supposed to announce plans to cut the combat tours of active-duty soldiers from 15 months to 12 months. The reduced deployments will not apply—at least initially—to any soldiers currently serving in Iraq, unless conditions improve to the point that commanders believe some could go home early.
