Some left-wing bloggers are making a big deal out of John McCain being spotted wearing Ferragamo loafers which retail somewhere in the neighborhood of $500. The lefty blogs are actually trying to compare McCain’s $500 shoes to John Edwards’s $400 haircuts. Their argument is that if Edwards is out of touch with common folk because of his $400 haircuts, then so is McCain with his $500 shoes.

Nice try lefties, but that just doesn’t hold up. Quality footwear is absolutely essential and unlike a haircut, John McCain’s Ferragamo loafers can be worn for many years to come. An expensive pair of shoes is in fact a good investment that will pay for itself, especially when spending a lot of time walking as a candidate for President is sure to do.

A haircut is something most people get every 2-4 weeks. The frequency of haircuts alone make spending $400 on each one a horrible investment and shows a lack of discipline and good judgment. It would not be unreasonable for a woman to spend $400 on a haircut, because a lot more time and effort goes into cutting and styling a woman’s hair. Add to that the fact that Edwards’s haircuts aren’t even that good and you really start to see how ridiculous it is.

Of course John Edwards isn’t known for having discipline, good judgment, or even intelligent spending habits. Combine the $400 haircuts with the $15,000 he spends every month taking care of his skanky girlfriend and bastard child while his wife is at home with cancer, and it becomes quite clear that John Edwards is not only out of touch, but he’s an as*hole to boot.
