Video: Democrat Attorney General Candidate Doesn’t Know What Attorney General Does

October 26, 2009 · Filed Under Politics, Video · Comment

Watch Democrat Steve Shannon completely ignore a question asked of him by his Republican opponent. Republican Ken Cuccinelli asked Shannon during a debate to name each division of the attorney general’s office and what they do. Steve Shannon and Ken Cuccinelli are both running for Attorney General of Virginia.

NYT: Eric Holder Deeply Involved In Marc Rich Pardon

Now that Barack Obama is elected, it looks like the New York Times is at least temporarily doing some real reporting.

The Times has discovered that attorney general nominee Eric Holder was more deeply involved with the disgraceful pardon of Marc Rich than his buddies were willing to admit.

If you’ve watched Hannity & Colmes at all since Obama was elected you already know everything in this article, but if you’re a Fox News hater then you should probably read the piece.

Basically, Eric Holder is an unethical hack who went around the DOJ and gave the word to Clinton’s inner circle that he was “neutral leaning toward favorable” on the Rich pardon. The Times takes you through the entire process by which Holder became involved with the Rich pardon to begin with.

Frankly, out of all Obama’s appointments so far it’s Eric Holder that gives me the greatest concern. The Marc Rich pardon was one of a series of bitch moves committed by Holder while he was 2nd in command at DOJ under Clinton.

Holder is the weak link in Obama’s national security team. Holder will likely cower at the feet of the ACLU and allow civil liberties to trump national security. However, if Holder is Obama’s big gift to the far left nuts then I guess it could have been worse.

Mukasey Sworn In As Nation’s 81st Attorney General

November 14, 2007 · Filed Under U.S. News · Comment

Former federal Judge Michael B. Mukasey was sworn in as the nation’s 81st attorney general today.

President Bush, welcoming Mukasey to the Cabinet, called him “the right man” to confront the challenges at the department, which has been demoralized by a scandal in which eight U.S. attorneys were fired, provoking allegations from Democrats that they were purged for failing to adhere to a Republican agenda on prosecutions.

The ceremony, in the Great Hall at the Justice Department, came before an audience of employees and two former attorneys general — Richard L. Thornburgh and John Ashcroft.

There has been a recent exodus of top-level employees from the department. Bush said he would name their replacements Thursday “so America has the strongest … national security team in place.”

Bush thanked former Atty. Gen. Alberto R. Gonzales, his longtime political ally and a former Texas Supreme Court justice.

“Al Gonzales worked tirelessly,” said Bush, who previously has complained that Gonzales’ “good name was dragged through the mud for political reasons.” Bush today said that he was grateful for the former attorney general’s service, prompting robust applause from Justice Department employees.

I think Mukasey’s first act as Attorney General should be to repeatedly waterboard terror suspects on the steps of the capital just to make Democrats cry.

Senate Committee Approves Mukasey Nomination

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted on Tuesday to approve the nomination of Michael B. Mukasey as Attorney General, despite opposition from most of the committee’s cowardly Democrats over Mr. Mukasey’s refusal to label an interrogation technique used by CIA as torture.

The vote, 11 to 8, with two Democrats joining all of the committee’s Republicans in supporting Mr. Mukasey, all but assured him of final confirmation by the full Senate. The Senate’s Democratic leaders are expected to schedule a vote by next week.

The nomination of Mr. Mukasey was almost derailed by his refusal at his confirmation hearings to define as torture the interrogation technique known as waterboarding, which simulates drowning and is reported to have been used by the Central Intelligence Agency on a handful of Qaeda leaders since the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

Democrats are not capable of doing what it takes to protect America and win the war on terror. They’re wimps who are more interested in coddling our enemies than making them talk.

Mukasey Refuses To Call Waterboarding Torture, Liberals Cry

October 30, 2007 · Filed Under Terrorists · Comment

In an effort to quell growing doubts in the Senate about his nomination as attorney general, Michael B. Mukasey declared Tuesday that waterboarding and other harsh interrogation techniques “seem over the line or, on a personal basis, repugnant to me” and promised to review the legality of such methods if confirmed.

But Mr. Mukasey told Senate Democrats he could not say whether waterboarding, which simulates drowning, was illegal torture because he had not been briefed on the details of the classified technique and did not want to suggest that Central Intelligence Agency officers who had used such techniques might be in “personal legal jeopardy.”

Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy said he was unsatisfied with Mukasey’s response to the waterboarding issue.

“I remain very concerned that Judge Mukasey finds himself unable to state unequivocally that waterboarding is illegal and below the standards and values of the United States,” Leahy said.

Of course the far left blogosphere has been raging about Mukeasey’s refusal to call waterboarding torture. I think it says a lot that the biggest priority for Democrats in the War on Terror is making sure terrorists don’t get scared.

The thought of a terrorist in some CIA prison scared that he could drown unless he tells what he knows is causing Democrats to break into cold sweats in the middle of the night.

They always argue that we have to reclaim our moral authority in the world. We can’t waterboard people, because other countries might think bad things about us. When did the Democrats all of the sudden become the beacon of morality?

This is the party that supports taking god out of everything and federally funded abortion anytime, and now they’re suddenly the morality police?

What this really shows is that the long running perception that Democrats are weak on National Security is in fact valid. Their biggest concern is not getting information out of the terrorist, but making sure we’re not too mean. They don’t want terrorists to be deprived of sleep or get too hot or cold.
