After reports that Republicans and Democrats haven’t met for a week or more, CBS News Congressional correspondent Nancy Cordes checked in on the progress of negotiations in the “super committee” with member Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.).

Nancy “Stretch” Pelosi is making ludicrous statements again! Here’s Stretch at a press conference today:

“What we’re trying to do is save the world from the Republican budget . . . We’re trying to save life on this planet as we know it today.”

Republicans members of the House Budget Committee accepted copies of the President’s 2012 budget Monday, commenting that it spends, borrows and taxes “too much.” Today is Valentine’s Day, but I don’t know if this is the card America was hoping to get from the administration,” Rep. Scott Garrett (R-N.J.) said.

Last night Democrats voted on a document that allowed them to deem a $1.12 trillion dollar budget as ‘passed’ — a budget that has neither been proposed nor written.

I think Connie Hair over at Human Events put it best:

Never before — since the creation of the Congressional budget process — has the House failed to pass a budget, failed to propose a budget then deemed the non-existent budget as passed as a means to avoid a direct, recorded vote on a budget, but still allow Congress to spend taxpayer money.

Does it get any more corrupt than that?

The White House is being forced to acknowledge the wide gap between its once-upbeat predictions about the economy and today’s bleak landscape.

The administration’s annual midsummer budget update is sure to show higher deficits and unemployment and slower growth than projected in President Barack Obama’s budget in February and update in May, and that could complicate his efforts to get his signature health care and global-warming proposals through Congress.

The release of the update – usually scheduled for mid-July – has been put off until the middle of next month, giving rise to speculation the White House is delaying the bad news at least until Congress leaves town on its August 7 summer recess.

Putting off the release so you can keep lying to the American people about the numbers, now that’s change I can believe in.
