This is one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen. I cannot imagine having to deal with your own impending death at 9-years old. It’s unthinkable.

Study: Marijuana Could Increase Testicular Cancer By 70%

marijuana 300x191 Study: Marijuana Could Increase Testicular Cancer By 70%

A new study conducted in the U.S. claims that pot use could increase the chances of developing testicular cancer by as much as 70%:

“In the absence of more certain information, a decision to smoke marijuana recreationally means that one is taking a chance on one’s future health,” said Dr Schwartz.

The team interviewed 369 men with testicular cancer, in the Seattle area – mostly in their 20s and 30s – about their history of marijuana use.

They then compared their responses with those from just under 1,000 men without the disease from a similar area and age group.

Even after other “lifestyle” factors such as smoking and drinking as well as risks such as a family history of the disease, cannabis use emerged as a significant possible cause, the study published in the journal Cancer concluded.

Regular or long-term cannabis smokers appeared twice as likely to develop the disease as those who had never used the drug.

Being a regular marijuana smoker at the time of diagnosis was associated with a 70% increased risk.

I don’t buy it. This is an attempt by the government to derail the growing support across America in favor of legalizing marijuana. “The man” figures a sure way to discourage men from smoking weed is to tell them they might get cancer in their nuts. I’m not buying into it — and neither is Michael Phelps.

tony snow Tony Snow, Dead at 53

Tony Snow, the former White House press secretary and pundit, died this morning at Georgetown University hospital in Washington D.C.

A syndicated columnist, editor, TV anchor, radio show host and musician, Snow worked in nearly every medium in a career that spanned more than 30 years.

Snow joined FOX in 1996 as the original anchor of “FOX News Sunday” and hosted “Weekend Live” and a radio program, “The Tony Snow Show,” before departing in 2006. He went on to become White House press secretary for President George W. Bush.

Tony Snow was a great journalist and a terrific commentator. I can remember when he took over as White House press secretary from Scott McClellan. He was absolutely amazing in that role, and unlike his predecessor the press corps couldn’t help but like him.

Even when looking pale and losing his hair from battling cancer, Tony always had a smile on his face and positive outlook on life. He will truly be missed and his wife and kids are in our prayers.

Here’s what President Bush said:

“Laura and I are deeply saddened by the death of our dear friend, Tony Snow. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Jill, and their children, Kendall, Robbie and Kristi. The Snow family has lost a beloved husband and father. And America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character. … He brought wit, grace and a great love of country to his work. His colleagues will cherish memories of his energetic personality and relentless good humor. All of us here at the White House will miss Tony, as will the millions of Americans he inspired with his brave struggle against cancer.”

Here’s what Dana Perino said:

“The White House has lost a great friend and a great colleague,” said Perino in a statement released to the media. “We all loved watching him at the podium, but most of all we learned how to love our families and treat each other.”

Here’s what Harry Reid said:

“Tony was a man of unique talent and extraordinary character — a determined spokesman, a dogged conservative, and a dedicated husband and father. His influence on the political dialogue of this country was as remarkable as it was pervasive — but at no time did Tony ever lose perspective on what was truly important in his life, and at no point did he ever lose the famous sense of humor and wit which accompanied that perspective.”

Here’s what John McCain said:

“Tony Snow’s passing is a national loss. His intellect, his decency and his professionalism set a high standard for conservatives in public service and journalism. America will miss his voice and I will miss a friend.”

Ted Kennedy Brain Surgery Successful

June 2, 2008 · Filed Under Medical News, World News · Comment

The media is reporting that Sen. Ted Kennedy’s brain surgery to remove a cancerous tumor has been successful.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy underwent what his doctors called successful surgery Monday to treat his cancerous brain tumor, and told his wife shortly after that he felt “like a million bucks,” a family spokeswoman said.

The surgery at Duke University Medical Center took about 3 1/2 hours. He is expected to undergo chemotherapy and radiation in coming weeks, and will remain at the North Carolina facility for about a week.

That is wonderful news and we hope Sen. Kennedy makes a speedy recovery.

patrick swayze 3 Patrick Swayze Diagnosed With Cancer

From the AP:

American actor Patrick Swayze, best known for his roles in the movies “Dirty Dancing” and “Ghost,” has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, People magazine reported on Wednesday.

“Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far,” Swayze’s doctor, George Fisher, was quoted as saying.

“All of the reports stating the time frame of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.”

George appeared to be responding to rumors that began circulating on the Internet early Wednesday, alleging that the 55-year-old actor was in serious condition and had just weeks to live.

Swayze’s representative said the actor, who was voted Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine in 1991, was “continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects.”

The popular leading hunk appeared in a slew of movies in the 1980s and 1990s, including “Youngblood,” “Red Dawn,” “Road House” and “Point Break.”

Tabloids including the National Enquirer and New York Post first reported Swayze’s diagnosis, with both describing it as more serious than the actor’s representatives let on.

“Pancreatic cancer spreads rapidly and is seldom detected in its early stages, which is a major reason why it’s a leading cause of cancer death,” the US-based Mayo Clinic says on its web site, calling it “one of the most serious of cancers.”
