It doesn’t get much better than this. It was the king of Freudian slips. Lefty CBS News reporter Norah O’Donnell grills WH press secretary Jay Carney about the debt deal. She wants to know where the revenue increases are that Obama promised. Notice the curious use of “we.”

It turns out we got this wrong. Here’s what Matt Lewis at The Daily Caller says:

The impression was that in saying “we got nothing,” O’Donnell was identifying herself with the liberal side — a clear violation of journalistic ethics.

Because there was crosstalk, it’s easy to understand why some people — especially those already skeptical of the press — might have assumed the worst. But upon a second or third hearing, it appears that what O’Donnell actually said was this: “But you have Democrats saying ‘He gave them everything they wanted and we got nothing.’”

That changes the context completely. Other Conservatives concur with Lewis on this. Norah O’Donnell is undoubtedly a left wing Obama supporter, but in this instance there was no outright liberal media bias on display.

This is very disturbing. Lara Logan barely escaped with her life. Further proof that the Arab world is largely filled with savages and barbarians. They don’t treat their own women with respect so obviously savagely attacking one of ours is nothing. Once they thought she was a Jew it was fine to tear her apart.

Remember when Barack Obama was caught on a hot mic blasting the GOP last week? Well, it turns out we didn’t hear everything. CBS selectively edited the hot mic recording and only released parts of it. A blogger asked CBS to release the entire recording and they have so far refused. I wonder why they would do that? What was said? I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’s because whatever he said could potentially damage his reelection efforts. And lord knows, CBS wouldn’t want to do that.

On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a “60 Minutes” story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.

In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.

This 60 Minutes report is quite revealing. I’m becoming increasingly pessimistic about our chances of success in Afghanistan.

Iraq was totally different. A civil society already existed for us to build upon. A well trained and disciplined military and police force were not foreign ideas. Nearly all Iraqis can read and write.

Afghanistan is like stepping back into biblical times. They have no concept of a civil society. The idea that we can take a bunch of illiterate, drug addicted peasants and make them into a decent police force in a few years is a pipe dream.

Afghanistan is not a society that understands nor embraces the concept of ethics. Teaching a society the value of ethics, integrity, and the rule of law (beyond the Koran) will take decades. It has to be woven into the fabric of society.
