The judge is right. Blagojevich is the living embodiment of the corruption in politics that regular people fear. The very worst kind. His so-called “public service” was nothing more than a vehicle for his personal enrichment. He didn’t give a damn what happened to the people of Illinois, he was only interested in what he could trade for money. The way he brazenly spoke about enriching himself on those FBI tapes is horrifying. It is people like Blago who make the American people so cynical about politics.

Another person who should be sitting in a prison cell is Jesse Jackson Jr. He was more than happy to purchase Obama’s Senate seat from Blago. Were it not for the FBI stepping in he likely would have.

A federal grand jury in Raleigh, N.C., today handed down a six-count indictment against former Sen. John Edwards for allegedly using more than $900,000 in campaign funds to hide his mistress during the 2008 presidential campaign.

The charges, following a two-year investigation, include conspiracy, illegal campaign contributions and making false statements. Edwards is expected to be arraigned on the charges this afternoon. Read the full indictment.

CBS News political correspondent Jan Crawford reports on the latest in the federal investigation into whether former Sen. John Edwards used campaign money to hide his mistress.

Nevada Republican Sen. John Ensign announced this afternoon that he plans to resign effective May 3.

Senator John Ensign of Nevada, who had already announced that he would not run for re-election in 2012, is planning to resign, he said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon. Mr. Ensign, a Republican, had been caught up in a sex scandal and an ethics inquiry stemming from his admission in 2009 that he had had an affair with the wife of a top aide.

Republican Party operatives said Mr. Ensign’s decision, effective May 3, would open the door for Gov. Brian Sandoval of Nevada to appoint a Republican to fill out the remainder of Mr. Ensign’s term, thereby increasing the chances that the party could hold onto what may be a hotly contested seat next year. One likely candidate is Representative Dean Heller, a Republican House member already running for the job, giving Mr. Heller a possible leg up for a full term.

All I care about is that it doesn’t effect Republican numbers in the Senate, and it doesn’t look like this will. I could care less about Ensign. He’s what is wrong with Washington as far as I’m concerned. He’s a hypocrite of the highest order. He was banging the wife of a top aide. I’m not sure how much lower you can get than that. He’s a scumbag. I’m not gonna carry his water.

According to the New York Slimes, scumbag John Edwards is about to be indicted by a federal grand jury. Edwards allegedly took millions from his campaign coffers and used it to cover-up his extramarital affair and subsequent love child as his wife was dying of cancer. In short, John Edwards is both a disgraceful politician and a disgraceful human being. I hope he rots in prison.

President Obama likes to crow about the transparency of his administration. But time and time again that transparency has proven to be little more than smoke and mirrors.
