First Look: Bush’s New House

December 4, 2008 · Filed Under President Bush · 2 Comments

The Smoking Gun has pictures of the new crib president Bush just bought in Dallas, TX. It was reported a couple of months back that Laura Bush was house hunting in the Dallas area — this is what she bought.

The home sits on 1.13 acres and offers 8,501 square feet of living space, according to city appraisal records. The property was purchased for $2.07 million in early-October by Robert McCleskey, the president’s accountant, who is listed as trustee on deed records. Built in 1959, the home has been improved with a detached garage (1150 square feet), servants quarters (896 square feet), and a storage building (240 square feet).

Like the president’s Crawford ranch, his new home is nice but not over-the-top like say — Al Gore.

Ridiculous: Black County Commissioner Offended By The Term “Black Hole”

July 10, 2008 · Filed Under Racism, U.S. News · Comment

This actually happened in Dallas on July 7th:

A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.

County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.

Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections “has become a black hole” because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.

Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud “Excuse me!” He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a “white hole.”

That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.

Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster’s, is perhaps “the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape.”

Why is it that black people seem to be perpetually offended lately? I think Mayfield should have gotten up and punched John Wiley Price in the face for acting like a total jackass. It’s completely and utterly absurd to believe using the term “black hole” had any racial connotations to it at all. To suggest otherwise is to make yourself look like a moron and a race hustler.

Price corrected him by saying the office had become a “white hole?” WTF is a white hole? No such thing exists! We are fast running out of an “acceptable” vocabulary in this country if this is really how we’re going to act.

I definitely think “black hole” was a more than appropriate word to use, but given the circumstances I think “asshole” would have been a perfectly good substitute.
