It’s a real shame that celebrities have reduced the concept of “rehab” to pretty much a joke. Rehab is no longer for substance abuse problems. Celebrities go to rehab now for cheating on their spouses, making verbal gaffes, fighting, and the ever popular “exhaustion.”

The latest rehab abuser is Disney star Demi Lovato. Up to this point Demi has never been in trouble for anything. Sadly, her first brush with trouble lands her in rehab.

Demi was on tour with the Jonas Brothers until last week. After a show she and some friends snuck away to go clubbing or something. Demi’s dad found out and got mad. Demi suspected it was one of her backup dancers who ratted her out to the old man. During a flight to their next tour date, Demi confronted the backup dancer and punched her in the face. Was that the best method of conflict resolution? No. Is it super duper shocking and horrible? Not really.

Punching someone in the face is very rock and roll. Rock stars have been getting in fist fights for decades. It’s particularly rock and roll when it involves two chicks. Secondly, she’s a teenager. That’s the way teenage girls react when another girl gets up in their business. You’ll find that kind of thing in any high school in America.

Is there fallout from the episode? Certainly. Is Disney pissed? No doubt. But she should have owned up to it, apologized, cut the dancer a check, and then reveled in her bad ass image. Make lemonade out of lemons if you will.

Instead, she’s “seeking help” in rehab. How lame is that? I don’t think it’s time to call in the Shrinks over a catty teenage fist fight.

Sources close to Demi say she feels "awful" about her behavior and took personal responsibility for it by leaving the tour and seeking help.

What has become of our rock stars? Our PC culture is has officially neutered them. Why must we “seek help” for having a normal human response. I don’t think teenage girls should be fist fighting. But I also don’t think they’re crazy head cases if they do.

We’re becoming a nation full of candy ass whiners. We’re becoming Europe.

The real question here is whether the girl Demi punched really did narc on her. That’s the real story!

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Disney is pushing for this duet between Miley and John to be nominated for “Best Original Song” at the upcoming 2009 Academy Awards.
