Russian War Crimes In Chechnya: Where’s the Outrage?
The entire world has focused their attention on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The slightest perceived human rights violations by the U.S. are broadcast around the world and met with international condemnation. However, what the world has failed to notice or condemn are the very real war crimes taking place in Chechnya.
Russia has been slaughtering civilians there for years with impunity. Russian aircraft routinely carpet bomb villages killing hundreds of men, women, and children. Russia also uses Chechnya as a testing ground for new weapon systems.
Russia’s poorly trained, poorly equipped, and poorly led Army, commits every atrocity imaginable on a daily basis. Robbery, murder, rape, looting, torture, and kidnapping, are just a few of the things Russia’s Army is known for. Civilians there claim that Russian soldiers often kidnap Chechen citizens and hold them for ransom. If the family is unable to pay, the soldiers simply murder the person and dump their body. Soldiers in Chechnya are usually extremely intoxicated which leads to frequent suicides and accidental deaths as well.
The atrocities taking place in Chechnya are almost beyond belief, yet rarely does the international community even acknowledge that a war is even taking place there.
If human rights organizations are really serious about human rights then they should stop worrying about detainees in Gitmo and start worrying about the wholesale slaughter of civilians in Chechnya.
The extent to which Russia has devastated Chechnya can best be summed up in two photographs.

Support For Genocide Resolution Fading Fast
A controversial measure to officially recognize the Armenian genocide, which only days ago appeared headed for approval in the House, has begun to lose support. The change comes in the face of furious protests by the Turkish government and warnings of possible repercussions for U.S. military operations in Iraq.
Seven representatives withdrew as cosponsors on Monday, followed by at least four more Tuesday. Since Jan. 30, when the resolution was introduced, at least 21 representatives have pulled their names, leaving 215 cosponsors — short of a majority of the House.
It appears many Democrats have come to their senses and have decided not to support sabotaging the war effort and insulting our friends. Many Democrats are now pressuring Speaker Pelosi and the rest of the leadership not to bring the resolution to the floor.

Democrats Sabotaging The War…Again

With all the problems America is facing right now in the Middle East, friends are hard to come by. So why then has a Democratically controlled Congress decided now is the time to pass a resolution, condemning the massacre of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire 90 years ago?
It would actually be funny if the situation weren’t so serious. As one of our greatest friends, Turkey, has asked that we not go forward with the resolution as it’s a very sensitive subject in their country.
Since 90% of supplies pass through our bases in Turkey on the way to Iraq, it would make since that as a friend we would be happy to honor such a request.
Yet for some strange reason the Democrats are determined to condemn an atrocity that took place nearly 100 years ago by a government that no longer exists.
They want a resolution to condemn what happened specifically as “genocide” — a word that provokes instant anger among today’s Turks, since genocide means a deliberate government policy aimed at exterminating a whole people, as distinguished from horrors growing out of a widespread breakdown of law and order in the Ottoman Empire during the First World War.
The only conclusion one can reach based on the evidence at hand, is that Democrats are attempting to outright sabotage our war effort in Iraq. They hope Turkey will cut off the supplies from getting to our troops, which will bring the war to a rapid end and seal our defeat.
If Democrats are actually willing to sabotage the war in Iraq just to stick it to President Bush, it really shows what repulsive human beings many of the Democrats actually are.
This is not President Bush’s war, this is America’s war and every single person that calls themselves an American should want us to win. You don’t have to agree with the war, but you do have to want us to succeed.

The Hot Joints
Turkey Threatens Repercussions for U.S.
Turkey, which is a key supply route to U.S. troops in Iraq, recalled its ambassador to Washington on Thursday and warned of serious repercussions if Congress labels the killing of Armenians by Turks a century ago as genocide.
Ordered after a House committee endorsed the genocide measure, the summons of the ambassador for consultations was a further sign of the deteriorating relations between two longtime allies and the potential for new turmoil in an already troubled region.
As if we don’t have enough problems in that region of the world. After we spit in the eye of the turks, let’s thing of some way to insult Jordan as well. It’s despicable that Congress is literally creating a serious problem for us out of thin air instead of just dropping the issue.
Jimmy Carter Says Something Stupid…Again
Former President and frequent U.S. critic Jimmy Carter doesn’t like it when people use the prickly word “genocide” when referring to the situation in Darfur. He calls it factually inaccurate and unhelpful to use such language. Call me crazy, but I think I prefer to hear foreign policy advice from someone besides the worst President in U.S. history.
Everything that Jimmy Carter said while he was President and since is both factually inaccurate and very much unhelpful. He needs to come home from the Sudan and stick a peanut in it already!
