Hillary Clinton Supporters Thank George W. Bush
No, you’re not in the twilight zone and the headline means exactly what it says. The Hillary Democrats over at HillBuzz posted a very nice thank you letter to former President Bush and the former First Lady.
Here’s a sample of what they had to say:
We know absolutely no one in Bush family circles and have never met former President George W. Bush or his wife Laura.
If you have been reading us for any length of time, you know that we used to make fun of “Dubya” nearly every day…parroting the same comedic bits we heard in our Democrat circles, where Bush is still, to this day, lampooned as a chimp, a bumbling idiot, and a poor, clumsy public speaker.
Oh, how we RAILED against Bush in 2000…and how we RAILED against the surge in support Bush received post-9/11 when he went to Ground Zero and stood there with his bullhorn in the ruins on that hideous day.
We were convinced that ANYONE who was president would have done what Bush did, and would have set that right tone of leadership in the wake of that disaster. President Gore, President Perot, President Nader, you name it. ANYONE, we assumed, would have filled that role perfectly.
Well, we told you before how much the current president, Dr. Utopia, made us realize just how wrong we were about Bush. We shudder to think what Dr. Utopia would have done post-9/11. He would have not gone there with a bullhorn and struck that right tone. More likely than not, he would have been his usual fey, apologetic self and waxed professorially about how evil America is and how justified Muslims are for attacking us, with a sidebar on how good the attacks were because they would humble us.
Honestly, we don’t think President Gore would have been much better that day. The world needed George W. Bush, his bullhorn, and his indominable spirit that day…and we will forever be grateful to this man for that.
As we will always be grateful for what George and Laura Bush did this week, with no media attention, when they very quietly went to Ft. Hood and met personally with the families of the victims of this terrorist attack.
FOR HOURS.
The Bushes went and met privately with these families for HOURS, hugging them, holding them, comforting them.
If there are any of you out there with any connection at all to the Bushes, we implore you to give them our thanks…
Click over to HillBuzz to read the rest. I think it shows a lot of courage and independence on their part to do something like this. Many of us have always known what a kind and decent man President Bush is and it’s nice to see folks on the other side of the aisle recognize that as well.
Bush Visits Fort Hood, Wounded Soldiers
From the Houston Chronicle:
Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, have visited wounded soldiers and their families after the mass shooting at Fort Hood.
The Bushes made their private visit to Fort Hood’s Darnall Army Medical Center on Friday night. Bush spokesman David Sherzer said in an e-mail that the couple thanked Fort Hood’s military leaders and hospital staff for the "amazing care they are providing."

Bush Gives Speech From Abu Dhabi, Calls Iran Leading Sponsor Of Terrorism
President Bush gently reminded Arab allies Sunday of the need to satisfy frustrated desires for democracy in the Mideast, but saved his harshest criticism for Iran, branding it “the world’s leading state-sponsor of terror.”
Speaking in the Persian Gulf country, about 150 miles from the shores of Iran, Bush said Tehran threatens nations everywhere and that the United States was “rallying friends around the world to confront this danger before it is too late.”
The warning about Iran was much tougher than Bush’s admonition about spreading democracy in the Middle East, which had been billed as the central theme of his speech.
After the speech, President Bush did some site seeing at the desert encampment of Abu Dhabi’s crown prince, Sheik Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The crown prince showed Bush his prize collection of Falcons, allowing the President to hold one.

2007 Was A Good Year For Bush
Larry Kudlow wrote a good piece in today’s Washington Times in which he rightly points out that 2007 has been a pretty good year for President Bush, and a pretty good year for America.
This has been the year of the much maligned “Troop Surge” in Iraq, which thanks to General David Petraeus is succeeding despite the best efforts of Congressional Democrats.
America has yet to be attacked again since 9/11, and that much to the chagrin of many is mainly due to the President’s aggressive War on Terror.
Regardless of what professional haters like Paul Krugman continue to say, the Goldilocks economy truly has performed better than all expectations.
As Larry Kudlow again rightly points out, 2007 looks set to produce 3 percent growth in real gross domestic product, nearly 3 percent growth in consumer spending, and more than 3 percent growth in after-tax inflation-adjusted incomes.
President Bush has successfully stopped the Democrats cold this year from precipitous withdrawal from Iraq, overspending on S-CHIP, and increasing taxes on the American people.
While President Bush apparently misplaced his veto pen during his first term, he has since either found it or been given a new one, because he has not hesitated to veto anything this term, or as Kudlow calls it, “doing God’s work.”
Bush and his Republicans can also take credit for outmaneuvering the Democrats on a patch for the AMT. The Democrats were made to waive the pay-as-you-go budget rule that might have forced tax increases on businesses and investment pools. Stopping this tax hike is a singular Republican achievement, while the AMT will now be indexed for inflation, thereby sparing more than 20 million taxpayers.
Riding high on the successes of 2007, you can look for President Bush to take on Congressional earmarks in 2008, starting with the obscene omnibus spending bill sitting on his desk even as I type this.
A spending bill chalk full of such gems as rodent control in Alaska ($113,000); olive fruit-fly research in France ($213,000); a hunting and fishing museum in Pennsylvania ($200,000); a bike trail in Minnesota ($700,000); a post office museum in Las Vegas ($200,000); and a $2 million monument to Rep. Charlie Rangel in New York.
Many Americans are no doubt suffering from some form of the dreaded “Bush Derangement Syndrome,” but for the unaffected or cured there are many things on a variety of fronts to be thankful for in 2007 and to thank President Bush for.

U.S. military to expand air space to ease holiday congestion
President Bush, citing “an epidemic of airline delays,” announced today that the U.S. military will open up air space to civilian airlines on the U.S. East Coast during the Thanksgiving holiday period.
In response to the worsening congestion, Bush announced a series of steps in advance of the Thanksgiving holidays, when 27 million passengers are expected to fly, and called on Congress to pass reforms for the long-term.
Among the other measures announced today, Bush said that the government would set up a website — www.fly.faa.gov — that would give passengers real-time information about delays, and would promulgate new regulations to double compensation for passengers — up to $800 – who are bumped from flights. The Federal Aviation Administration, he said, will also impose a holiday moratorium on nonessential maintenance projects, allowing all FAA personnel and equipment to focus on the task at hand.
The administration is also asking airlines to spread out their flights throughout the day and offer what Bush called “congestion pricing,” which has worked in other parts of the economy. And, he said, the FAA is looking at another rule that would define flight delays as “unfair and deceptive practices,” which come with a hefty monetary penalty.
Premature Evacuation
The pundits for King George III say the surge in Iraq is showing signs of succeeding and the American people are now in favor of the war. The king himself recently gave a speech in which he outlined the importance of winning the war, defeating the terrorists, securing the oil fields for future generations and that if we withdraw we will be in grave danger at home. Basically, what he’s said all along as he does whatever he wishes with US troops worldwide.
The thing I don’t understand is if we withdraw the terrorists will all of a sudden be able to find America on the map and bring devastation and genocide to our shores. Do they not know where the troops came from? Will they have to wait until troops are airlifted and shipped back to the States to know where to attack next? Wouldn’t it be smart to strengthen our borders if terrorists are coming? What stops them from coming across with the millions of Mexicans, Central Americans, and South Americans that stream into the Border States to a point of complete chaos currently? Does this mean terrorists can only fight on one front at a time? Are they waiting for airlines to have fare wars so they can afford to come here? Are they saving their money for nukes? Hasn’t the current policy of 100 million new workers that the wealthy can take advantage of driven all domestic agendas?
Why after years of the war on terror is the state department have less than a couple dozen employees that speak Arabic? Is it possible we never intended to negotiate with the Arab world? Is it that important that we use up trillions of dollars of weaponry the military has stock piled up over the last couple of decades? Must we continuously act like a big, fat loudmouth, bragging and threatening everyone in the world except the British to get our way on every issue, all the time, all over the world, demanding everything imaginable, and giving nothing in return? In a school yard we would be the obnoxious bully everyone hated, which explains our place in the world today. I didn’t catch but a one liner the other day where he said something about nuclear war with Iran I think. Jesus, can’t anyone get a muzzle thrown over that guy’s mouth.
The phrase that keeps coming to mind is “not in my name”. I’ve never let my mouth overload my ass and I don’t appreciate others doing it for me. Our troops deserve better than this. Their lives should be placed in the line of fire only when we are actually under attack not just because someone plotted to kill our daddy. But I guess kings have never given a shit what the people think or feel. Life doesn’t change. History always repeats itself. The good die young. And absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Welcome Back France, We Missed You!!
France’s president, Nicolas Sarkozy, burst onto the Washington scene on Tuesday, in his first official visit to the White House and asking the United States to embrace him as a friend.
Mr. Sarkozy backslapped and hugged his way through the day. He also proclaimed his determination to be a reliable partner of the United States.
“I come to Washington to bear a very simple message, a message that I bear on behalf of all Frenchmen,” he said in a toast at a formal White House dinner in his honor. “I want to reconquer the heart of America.”
“Sarko l’Américain,” as he is called, is considered the most pro-American French president in decades. Mr. Sarkozy’s relationship with Mr. Bush is said to be warm, and his stance on Iran tough.
That’s not the attitude Bush would have ever heard from former French President Jacques Chirac who publicly lobbied against the United States at the U.N. and everywhere else. In electing Sarkozy the French people have clearly rejected Chirac’s socialist policies that have damaged the economy in France in recent years.
In his remarks in the State Dining Room, he spoke with passion about freedom and liberty and the need for U.S.-French cooperation in addressing terrorism, nuclear proliferation, poverty and religious fanaticism.
The U.S. and France back tough diplomacy to keep Iran from having nuclear weapons. They have jointly sponsored U.N. resolutions supporting Lebanese sovereignty. And while France opposed the war in Iraq, Sarkozy sent his foreign minister on a surprise three-day trek to Baghdad in August to enhance France’s role in Iraq’s future.
“I never quite understood why we had to fight with the United States,” Sarkozy said earlier in the day at a meeting of the French-American Business Council.
Sarkozy has wasted no time in his bid to modernize France, in part by trying to inject an American-style work ethic. As a sign of his pro-American tendencies, he even took a summer vacation in the United States.
Many Americans who have been apart of the widespread “Boycott France” campaign can finally in turn begin vacationing in France again.
