Stephen King: If You Can’t Read ‘Then You’ve Got, the Army, Iraq’

May 5, 2008 · Filed Under Video · Comment

In an absolutely stunning display of ignorance and stupidity, horror writer Stephen King said the following to a group of people on C-Span:

“I don’t want to sound like an ad, a public service ad on TV, but the fact is if you can read, you can walk into a job later on. If you don’t, then you’ve got, the Army, Iraq, I don’t know, something like that. It’s, it’s not as bright. So, that’s my little commercial for that.”

For those of you who don’t possess the earth shattering intellect of Stephen King, allow me to roughly translate the above statement…

“I don’t want to get all preachy, but if you at least know how to read then you can get a job anywhere. Whatever you do, don’t be a dumbass and serve your country. Only illiterate morons do that.”
