According to a the Los Angeles Times, the CIA is no longer in the detention and interrogation business. An extremely high level terrorist was recently captured in Pakistan, but we’re not going to question him. Thanks to Barack Obama’s new warm and fuzzy version of the War on Terror we don’t do things like that anymore.

He’s considered one of world’s most dangerous terrorism suspects, and the U.S. offered a $1-million reward for his capture in 2005. Intelligence experts say he’s a master bomb maker and extremist leader who possesses a wealth of information about Al Qaeda-linked groups in Southeast Asia.

Yet the U.S. has made no move to interrogate or seek custody of Indonesian militant Umar Patek since he was apprehended this year by officials inPakistan with the help of a CIA tip, U.S. and Pakistani officials say.

The little-known case highlights a sharp difference between President Obama‘s counter-terrorism policy and that of his predecessor,George W. Bush. Under Obama, the CIA has killed more people than it has captured, mainly through drone missile strikes in Pakistan’s tribal areas. At the same time, it has stopped trying to detain or interrogate suspects caught abroad, except those captured in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“The CIA is out of the detention and interrogation business,” said a U.S. official who is familiar with intelligence operations but was not authorized to speak publicly.

The fact Obama has said CIA must stick to the Army Field Manual for interrogations is one reason. The other is that interrogators are still living under the threat of prosecution from Eric Holder and his rogue DOJ. This has created an atmosphere of hesitation and fear in the intelligence community. CIA now prefers to sit back and wait for an interrogation report from a 3rd party that may or may no be accurate.

This is such an outrage. Obama’s ACLU friendly policies are putting this entire country in danger.

The CIA has tapes of 9/11 plotter Ramzi Binalshibh being interrogated in a secret overseas prison. Discovered under a desk, the recordings could provide an unparalleled look at how foreign governments aided the U.S. in holding and questioning suspected terrorists.

The two videotapes and one audiotape are believed to be the only remaining recordings made within the clandestine prison system.

The tapes depict Binalshibh’s interrogation sessions at a Moroccan-run facility the CIA used near Rabat in 2002, several current and former U.S. officials told The Associated Press. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because the recordings remain a closely guarded secret.

Some guy at CIA found the tapes in a box stuck under a desk and forgotten about. This is not good. Not good at all. Ramzi Binalshibh wasn’t held in a Moroccan dungeon for his interrogation for nothing. Ugly things no doubt happened to him. I could care less about that, but if these tapes go public it could be extremely damaging to our war effort. The hard left will push to get these tapes released and knowing what an incompetent asshole our Attorney General is he’ll probably release them.

You really do have to keep your eye on this administration and this congress every minute of every day. In case you haven’t noticed the assault on our intelligence agencies that was in full swing after Obama’s election has died down in recent months. Things have been very quiet — a little too quite.

That uneasy calm was shattered today as Democrats tried a sneak attack on the intelligence community in the form of a last minute addition to the intel bill.

Stashed in the new intelligence bill literally in the dark of night were 11 pages that banned “degrading” treatment of detainees. Interrogators would face 15-years in prison if something they did was ruled “degrading” by this left-wing Congress.

So-called degrading treatment “includes but is not limited to” exploiting phobias, hooding detainees, sleep deprivation, extreme temperatures, and anything else the gutless bureaucrats decide.

The American people had no idea what they were doing when they put this radical bunch of miscreants in charge. These leftists are f*cking crazy and they’re going to get us all killed.

Fortunately, Republicans howled in protest and the bill was eventually pulled.

Jonah Goldberg has a great piece over at NRO that looks at some of Obama’s claims about Winston Churchill’s alleged refusal to torture. It seems Obama doesn’t quite have his facts right. The interrogation methods used by the British military against captured German soldiers included sleep deprivation, exposure to cold, and other psychological techniques.

In fact, they used many of the same techniques used at Gitmo that Obama and his ACLU cronies call “torture.” Moreoever, the techniques worked then as they did after 9/11.

He was released after 19 months and is now being represented by all the usual human rights groups. He wants the people responsible for his detainment to be identified and prosecuted. Obviously, I don’t share that sentiment.

A videotaped interrogation by Canadian officials of a weeping teenage Guantanamo Bay prisoner was released over the Internet Tuesday, in what is believed to be the first such video from the U.S. facility seen by the public.

All I can say is boo-hoo! That little thug threw a grenade at American soldiers in Afghanistan where he was holed up with his Al-Qaeda pals. The fact that he’s in as good a shape as he is shows just how over-the-top humane we are to these killers.

The article offers some amazing insight into how the War on Terror was conducted in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 and how we’ve managed to prevent new attacks. The men and women who work behind the scenes both in the U.S. and around the world to keep our country safe are true heroes.

As much as all the Bush haters in this country would just love it, there is no evidence to suggest that the White House had anything to do with the destruction of the CIA tapes.

Congressional investigators have turned up no evidence that anyone in the Bush administration openly advocated the tapes’ destruction, according to officials familiar with a set of classified documents forwarded to Capitol Hill. “It was an agency decision — you can take it to the bank,” CIA Director Michael V. Hayden said in an interview on Friday. “Other speculations that it may have been made in other compounds, in other parts of the capital region, are simply wrong.”

It was the head of Clandestine Services, Jose Rodriguez who acted against the earlier advice of at least five senior CIA and White House officials, who had counseled the agency since 2003 that the tapes should be preserved.

Rodriguez consulted CIA lawyers and officials, who told him that he had the legal right to order the destruction. In his view, he received their implicit support to do so, according to his attorney, Robert S. Bennett.

I’m betting that after all is said and done that Mr. Rodriguez will be seen as having acted lawfully when he ordered the destruction of the interrogation tapes.

Mr. Rodriguez is a patriot and deserves a great deal of thanks. He knew it was only a matter of time before some traitor at the agency got a hold of those tapes and presented them to the NY Times with a big red bow on them.

Those tapes should have never been made in the first place, because our government is incapable of keeping secrets. The very existence of those interrogation tapes placed our interrogation program and national security at risk.

The anti-American/anti-Bush crowd would have given anything to get their grubby, liberal, mitts on those tapes and used them to do great damage to this country.
