Describing himself as “the underdog” in next year’s presidential election, Barack Obama admitted that Americans were no better off than they were four years ago – echoing Ronald Reagan’s successful criticism of Jimmy Carter.

Obama defended his record in office as producing steady progress – but told ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos: “Nobody is going to deny that we’re not where we need to be, that the economy is not producing enough jobs that pay well and give people a leg up on life.”

Asked by Stephanopoulos how he would appeal to voters “who simply don’t think they’re better off than they were four years ago,” Obama replied:

Well, I don’t think they’re better off than they were four years ago. They’re not better off than they were before Lehman collapsed, before the financial crisis, before this extraordinary recession that we’re going through.

I think that what we’ve seen is that we’ve been able to make steady progress to stabilise the economy but the unemployment rate is still way too high. And that’s why it’s so critical for us to make sure that we are taking every action we can take to put people back to work.

In his only debate with Carter in the 1980 presidential campaign, Reagan used his closing remarks to deliver what many political historians believe to have been a telling blow:

Next Tuesday all of you will go to the polls, you’ll stand there in the polling place and make a decision. I think when you make that decision, it might be well if you would ask yourself: are you better off than you were four years ago?

With US official unemployment still above 9%, the economic downturn has dragged down Obama’s opinion poll ratings to the point where 55% of voters in ABC News’s latest poll now expect Obama to be a one-term president.

Asked if his weak poll ratings and the state of the economy made him the underdog in the 2012 election, Obama quickly replied: “Absolutely … I don’t mind. I’m used to being an underdog.”

The interview was streamed live over the web by ABC News and Yahoo, with questions submitted online. One asked what would replace Obama’s 2008 campaign slogans of hope and change.

“I haven’t quite boiled it down to a bumper sticker yet but I think what will define 2012 is, our vision for the future,” Obama replied.

Asked what would be different if he wins a second term, Obama said: “The way it’s going to change is because the American people are going to have the say about where we want to go,” and accused the Republicans in Congress of following “a pretty extreme approach to governance.”

Later in the wide-ranging interview, Obama said he used an iPad – “Steve Jobs actually gave it to me a little bit early” – to read news coverage. Asked if he ever felt compelled to leave online comments, Obama replied:

You know, I don’t. I figure, if I got started, I wouldn’t stop, and I’ve got other things to do.

This man is such a disgrace I’m embarrassed to say that he’s an American. It’s beyond the pale even for Jimmy “Useful Idiot” Carter to accuse the US of human rights violations from inside North Korea. There is no country on earth with less disregard for human rights than North Korea. Millions and millions and millions of people have died at the hands of the two Kims. For this hack peanut farmer and failed president to lecture America about human rights while in the presence of those murderous cretins is an outrage.

For him to talk about America witholding food aide to the North shows either stupidity or willful ignorance on his part. Let’s first examine why North Korea needs food aide. When you cross the barbwire fence into South Korea there’s more food than a person could eat in 10 lifetimes. There is no difference between North and South Korea except for the regimes in power. The North has no food because they’ve maintained rigid Communist control over the economy. Once your government food rations run out you don’t eat. It’s illegal to grow your own food or set up your own business. Kim Jong-IL has starved his people to death for decades. Literally, millions of people die of starvation in North Korea.

Secondly, the food aide we send there only goes to feed the North Korean armed forces. Whatever food is left over is then sold to starving citizens at prices they cannot afford. Aiding the North Korean regime only serves to prop it up. We prolong the suffering and the agony of the North Korean people by aiding the regime. Our aide never reaches the starving people of North Korea anyway.

Jimmy Carter is a useful idiot and a propagandist who never met a third world dictator he didn’t carry water for.

Take a look at this recent footage smuggled out of North Korea. That is what North Korean human rights violations look like. Would you break bread with a regime that did that to people? I would not. Jimmy did and will again.

South Korea was nice enough to set up a school especially for North Korean refugees. Many of the children escaped from the North after their parents died of starvation. I posted a video about it last December.

Former President Jimmy Carter and other past world leaders arrived in Pyongyang Tuesday hoping to meet with North Korea’s leader to discuss dangerous food shortages and stalled nuclear disarmament talks.

Useful idiot Jimmy Carter met with brutal Cuban dictator Raul Castro earlier this week. He told him what a beautiful palace he has and the two shared a few yuks. I’m sure the thousands of people imprisoned on the island of Cuba for no reason appreciate Carter’s visit. Carter has been conducting his own rogue foreign policy ever since his disastrous stint in The White House ended back in 1981.

He’s just mad that every other living former president hates him. That’s why he’s standing by himself in that picture.

I’m glad the American is free, but it’s disgusting to see a former American president tap dancing for Kim. Kim Jong-iL likes to drag former high ranking US officials into North Korea for photo ops he can use for propaganda against his own people. By playing his game we’re encouraging him to continue kidnapping Americans.

When Clinton freed Lisa Ling’s sister recently he too went and picked her up in North Korea. The difference is that Bill Clinton only did the minimum to get her freed. He didn’t do a lot of excessive grinning and glad handing. He also didn’t salute anyone.

North Korea is a rogue state. Its leader is a mass murderer and a war criminal. To show the DPRK or its leadership any respect whatsoever is a disgrace.

Remember when Jimmy Carter went on MSLSD MSNBC and said the overwhelming majority of protests against Obama were because he was a black man? I sure as hell do, because it just happened a couple of weeks ago.

Now, the former peanut farmer tells CNN he never said that. Carter claims he said the “fringe element” were racist — not the majority.

Not satisfied with accusing everyone who disagrees with President Obama of being racist, the idiot from Plains spoke out yet again — this time from Columbia.

Carter told a Columbian newspaper that he believed the Bush administration was behind the coup against Hugo Chavez in 2002 in Venezuela.

“I think there is no doubt that in 2002, the United States had at the very least full knowledge about the coup, and could even have been directly involved.”

As usual, Jimmy offered no proof or supporting evidence of his latest charges. This from easily our worst president ever or certainly of the 20th century.
