Obama’s Mention Of “Civilian National Security Force” Vanishes From Speech

A new Internet controversy is brewing concerning a recent speech by Barack Obama. On July 2nd, in Colorado Springs, Barack Obama gave a speech in which he encouraged more public service. A portion of the speech that went largely unnoticed was when he said this:

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

Obviously, creating a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful as our mighty military is quite a suggestion and one that certainly requires more information. The strange thing is that none of the transcripts of Sen. Obama’s speech include the line about a “civilian national security force.”

Here’s what all the transcripts say:

We’ll send more college graduates to teach and mentor our young people. We’ll call on Americans to join an Energy Corps to conduct renewable energy and environmental cleanup projects in their neighborhoods. We’ll enlist veterans to help other vets find jobs and support, and to be there for our military families. And we’ll also grow our Foreign Service, open consulates that have been shuttered, and double the size of the Peace Corps by 2011 to renew our diplomacy.

Now if you watch the YouTube video below, you’ll notice he adds the line about a “civilian national security force.”

Where did the line go? What did he mean? How would we pay for it? What about the FBI and other agencies? What exactly would such an agency do? Is such a force even constitutionally permissible?

Serious questions need to be answered by the Obama campaign. This could well prove to be the biggest bombshell of the entire campaign if he’s serious. I’m surprised no journalist has raised the issue with him publicly yet.
