Remember when I posted the story last week about Cody Alecia? He’s the kid who was forced to remove the American flag from his bicycle by his middle school. The Sacramento school was afraid the flag would stoke “racial tensions.”

After a nationwide outcry the school reversed itself and said he can put all the flags he wants on his bike. He did more than that. This morning hundreds of bikers joined him on his ride to school.

So far no word on whether a race war has broken out on campus due to all the flag waving, but I’ll keep you updated.

This is some sick shit. I just can’t understand what’s going on in this country. A boy in Sacramento was forced by his middle school to remove the American flag from his bicycle. School officials said they had received complaints from students and wanted to avoid stoking “racial tensions.”

Since when does flying the American flag cause “racial tension?”

People who find the American flag racially offensive shouldn’t be here. They should get the f*ck out. We didn’t ask them to come here. We don’t need them here. We don’t want them here.

I’m surprised this hasn’t been posted elsewhere given the intensity of the illegal immigration debate:

I do have a few questions about this. First, did anyone talk to the restaurant owner about the flags first? Second, was the restaurant owner aware that flying a foreign flag above the US flag is illegal? Third, was the restaurant owner trying to make some kind of statement with that flag arrangement? Is he a member of the Reconquista movement? I don’t think cutting the thing down should be the first reaction, but if the restaurant owner was aware of the situation and refused to take it down then so be it.

Hat tip to the veteran in this video. Men like him didn’t spill their blood in Vietnam and elsewhere to have the flag disrespected here at home. Using an Army KA-BAR knife was a nice touch.

The NY Times’s Alessandra Stanley takes issue with NBC’s coverage of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. It’s just too damn pro-American!

Technology evolves, organizers add new sports — this year it’s ski cross — but NBC’s Olympic reportage, up close and way too personal, never seems to change. And in Vancouver the best exploits of what the network unfailingly refers to as “Team USA” only bring out the worst in network heavy breathing.

At a time when American athletes are amassing record numbers of medals, and NBC is drawing an impressive number of viewers, sports fans couldn’t ask for more fulsome, pro-American coverage — they could ask for a little less. NBC anchors, including those paid by the news division, glom onto the glamour and reflected glory of winsome champions, as per Matt Lauer’s no-boundaries embrace of the skier Lindsey Vonn on “Today” after she won the downhill race.

Yeah, Americans don’t want to hear about their fellow countrymen (or is it comrades now?) winning a bunch of gold medals. Screw that shit, tell us about the other countries instead.

NBC has been so intent on fellowship and the thrill of victory that it has neglected the thrill of an agonizing defeat, namely Russia’s. NBC paid only cursory attention to Russian bitterness over Yevgeny Plushenko losing the gold medal to the American Evan Lysacek, even after the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin weighed in with neo-cold-war disdain. The 2014 games are to be held in Sochi, a Black Sea resort, and Russia will be the host. For viewers seeking an international playing field, CNN may be a better bet.

I don’t really know how much more they could have devoted to that story. Vladimir Putin bitching about America in a posturing cold war tone is certainly nothing new. I think the better part of the story is the part NBC gave the most coverage to. During his interview with Bob Costas, American gold medalist Evan Lysacek spoke about his win over the angry Russian. He wondered if Putin would allow him into the country to compete at the 2014 games being held in Russia.

Alessandra Stanley’s bitterness over the pro-America tone of the NBC coverage is typical of the left. Leftists don’t view America as anything special. If anything, it’s an embarrassment (or it was until Obama was elected). In their view America is no better than any other place in the world and coverage of the Olympics should reflect that.

Fortunately, the leftist view of America is a minority one. A sad, lonely, pathetic minority.

With less than 24 hours until Barack Obama is sworn in as the 44th president of the United States, I can’t help but notice an odd transformation that seems to be taking place. It looks like maybe…just maybe liberals love America again. The election of Barack Obama really highlights one of the biggest differences between the left and the right in America.

Republicans and conservatives love this country all the time no matter who’s leading it and liberals only love this country when a liberal is in charge. Liberals loved to wear their flag pins and flag drawers when Clinton was president. Then when Bush was elected America became an evil place. A place liberals had to apologize for and use the flag only for stomping on or burning.

Most of the country wore flag pins after 9/11 — but not liberals. Any show of patriotism whatsoever was off limits so as not to give the impression of supporting president Bush. Liberals often sought the comfort of good men like Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro to comfort them during these very difficult eight years.

Living under the tyrannical rule of such a vicious and bloodthirsty dictator as Bush has been a challenge for all Americans, but especially for liberals.

Which is why I’m so happy to see liberals wiping the boot prints off their flags and daring to show a little patriotism.
