Politico has a piece up today that looks at what it calls a “harsher stance” towards Islam by the GOP. It recalls President Bush’s insistence throughout his presidency that Islam is a religion of peace (something he never got credit for at the time) and we should be tolerant.

Many people within the Republican party disagreed with him at the time and now we have a president who offers a full throated embrace of Islam at every opportunity.

People who claim Islam is a religion of peace have either never read the Koran or are simply lying. Islam is not a religion of peace. Many who practice Islam are peaceful, but the religion itself does not preach peace, understanding, tolerance, or any values that we in the west hold dear.

As for the Mosque at Ground Zero it’s really pretty simple. There is no question that Muslims have a right to build a Mosque there. We do have freedom of religion and Muslims should be able to practice freely. However, the sources of funding for the Mosque should be clear and transparent. The background of the radical Imam pushing the Mosque should be investigated.

The real issue is not whether the Mosque can legally be built there, but whether it should be. If the Islamic center was really about building bridges and promoting interfaith dialogue then they would be open to building it elsewhere. This of course has nothing to do with understanding or dialogue. This is about using our freedoms against us. This is about gloating over the murder of 3,000 infidels by putting up a giant victory Mosque on their graves.

I’ve been saying for years the narrative that Islam is a “religion of peace” is total crap. All you have to do is read the damn Koran to realize this. I’ve also been saying as others have that Islam is much more than a religion. It’s a political and ideological movement. The Palestinian/Hamas/Hezbollah version is more or less a death cult.
