This time bitching to the very magazine that sandbagged his top general in Afghanistan. Barack Obama is on the cover of the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone with the headline “Obama Fights Back.”

Here’s what the whiner-In-chief had to say about America’s #1 cable news channel (emphasis mine)

[Laughs] Look, as president, I swore to uphold the Constitution, and part of that Constitution is a free press. We’ve got a tradition in this country of a press that oftentimes is opinionated. The golden age of an objective press was a pretty narrow span of time in our history. Before that, you had folks like Hearst who used their newspapers very intentionally to promote their viewpoints. I think Fox is part of that tradition — it is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view. It’s a point of view that I disagree with. It’s a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world. But as an economic enterprise, it’s been wildly successful. And I suspect that if you ask Mr. Murdoch what his number-one concern is, it’s that Fox is very successful.

So I guess the hateful mockery that passes for news over at MSNBC is good for the country? According to a new poll from Politico, only about 12% of the country shares that view. What a jerk.

Gen. Stanley McChrystal.

McChrystal and his aides deride and insult pretty much everyone from President Obama and Vice President Biden down through the entire civilian leadership involved with the war.

Vice President Biden is jokingly referred to as Joe “Bite Me” and President Obama is described as “intimidated” and “unprepared” during his first meeting with McChrystal.

That’s only a tiny sample of the delicious sentiments expressed by McChrystal and his inner circle. The general clearly has a disdain for bureaucrats and the civilian leadership or “suits” as he calls them.

One part of me applauds the general for his honesty and refusal to bow to sanctimonious politicians and academic weasels who’ve never set foot on a battlefield.

However, military leadership operating at McChrystal’s level are expected to conduct themselves with a certain level of decorum. To so blatantly disrespect the president and vice president in such a biting and public manner is unacceptable.

For him to allow his subordinates to speak with such disdain for the civilian side in such a public manner is also unacceptable.

According to Byron York this is pretty typical of McChrystal. Those who know the general best say he’s always had a disdain for authority. He’s pretty much a bad ass soldier who knows just how far to push without actually getting fired. He was the same way at West Point where as a young cadet he accrued more than 100 hours of demerits for insubordination and other offenses.

The man knows how to stick around. He’s survived many flaps that would have ended most people’s career. Sadly, I don’t think he’ll survive this one.

The larger issue at stake is the war in Afghanistan. McChrystal was/is the champion of our Counter-Insurgency strategy that won out over the heated objections of Joe Biden (Bite Me).

We are losing in Afghanistan at the moment. Without McChrystal at the helm I wonder if The White House will have the will to stick it out.

Read the entire Rolling Stone piece — it’s a real shit storm. You have to come away admiring what a total bad ass McChrystal is.

One final thought: Why would the general pick a left-wing, anti-war rag like Rolling Stone to air dirty laundry?

UPDATE: The White House is hitting back.

Double Standard: What About the Rolling Stone Caricature Of John McCain?

Liberal Bias

caricatures

gross picture

John McCain

liberal double standard

rolling stone

rolling stone magazine

With all the fuss over The New Yorker’s distasteful caricature of the Obamas, it reminded me of a far more offensive caricature of John McCain that Rolling Stone featured last month.
