Nutroots Defeated: FISA Passes 69-28

July 9, 2008 · Filed Under U.S. News, War on Terror · Comment

After nearly two years of hysterical letter writing, protests, threats, and a whole lot of over-the-top rhetoric, the far-left has once again been delivered a crushing defeat.

Much to the chagrin of the shrill lefty blogs, the FISA reform legislation finally passed with a vote of 69-28. What really adds insult to injury in liberal land is that the messiah himself, Barack Obama, voted in favor of the legislation.

As with every other anti-terror issue that has been passed, the left is declaring this a very dark day. For liberals, the idea that no one will go to prison for listening to terrorists or suspected terrorists without a warrant is truly horrifying.

The Nutroots are already planning revenge against any Democrat who dared to allow the eavesdropping on terrorists.

It’s really pathetic that some people in America are willing to do almost anything to prevent the government from having all the tools it needs to protect us. I could care less if the feds intercept my email or listen to my cell phone conversations. Of course this bill doesn’t allow any of that, but even if it did I wouldn’t care.

The one part of the FISA bill that really got left-wingers fired up was the “retroactive immunity” provision which protected the telecom companies from the ACLU. Those companies agreed to help the NSA after 9/11 and were told they weren’t breaking the law. It’s only right that the government live up to that promise, and not let far-left thugs sue them into financial ruin.

Predictable: Obama Says He’ll “Refine” His Iraq Policy After Visit

obama hat Predictable: Obama Says Hell Refine His Iraq Policy After Visit

Most people (with the exception of the rabid far-left) knew Barack Obama was going to temper his views on Iraq sooner or later. All the ridiculous anti-war rhetoric was fine during the primary to get the far-left stirred up in to a frothy rage, but now it’s general election time and Barack Obama is back in the real world.

Barack Obama signaled today that his rigid 16-month timetable for withdrawal in Iraq may need to be “refined” based on the assessment given to him by the generals on the ground when visits with them very soon.

“I am going to do a thorough assessment when I’m there,” he told reporters on the airport tarmac here. “I’m sure I’ll have more information and continue to refine my policy.”

While it’s still true that the majority of Americans don’t think we should have gone in to Iraq, only a small minority of far-left loones believe we should leave in defeat. Given the dramatic improvements in Iraq both militarily and politically, Obama’s cut and run strategy from the primaries isn’t going to hold any water in the general election.

Shock and horror are reverberating around the lefty blogosphere as the far-left comes to terms with the fact that Obama isn’t as committed to America’s defeat as they are, even if only for political reasons.

You can look for him to return from Iraq and announce that based on the improvements he’s seen with his own eyes, his 16-month withdrawal plan may need some “adjusting.” No doubt he’ll try to stay as vague as possible for as long as possible on exactly what that means.

I just can’t believe Democrats were such suckers to believe that Obama was really a “different kind of politician.” Yeah right.

Obama Supporters Launch “We Are All Hussein” Campaign

Only a liberal could think up something quite this lame. Some Barack Obama supporters (mostly idealistic college kids) are taking the name ‘Hussein’ as their own as a show of support for the presumptive Democratic nominee.

According to the NY Times, young people like 19-year old Emily Nordling who according to her has never met a Muslim, but “shocked” her father by taking the name…wait for it…Emily ‘Hussein’ Nordling.

Or Jeff Strabone from Brooklyn who now signs his credit card receipts as Jeff ‘Hussein’ Strabone. The Times also mentions a man named Dan O’Maley. This one is my favorite because he not only changed his email name to “D. Hussein O’Maley” but his friends now greet him that way in person.

Liberals always have to have something to protest about, and this issue some say is about Republicans using Obama’s middle name like a “cuss word.”

If you thought this story couldn’t possibly get any more absurd, you’re in for a real treat. When asked what “inspired” them to take such a courageous stand, some said this:

Some said they were inspired by movies, including “Spartacus,” the 1960 epic about a Roman slave whose peers protect him by calling out “I am Spartacus!” to Roman soldiers, and “In and Out,” a 1997 comedy about a gay high school teacher whose students protest his firing by proclaiming that they are all gay as well.

I would give anything to be making this story up, because it’s just so damn silly it’s frankly difficult for me to type it. I’d like to see these idiots try out their cutesy new names next time they book a flight.

If The Times article is to be believed this is only the beginning of what is shaping up to be quite a movement.

Some Obama supporters say they were moved to action because of what their own friends, neighbors and relatives were saying about their candidate. Mark Elrod, a political science professor at Harding University in Searcy, Ark., is organizing students and friends to declare their Husseinhood on Facebook on Aug. 4, Mr. Obama’s birthday.

Yes, he really did say “Husseinhood.”

Feds Investingating San Francisco For Subverting Immigration Law

June 30, 2008 · Filed Under Immigration · 1 Comment

San Francisco is one of a handful of left-wing cities that has decided not to follow federal immigration law. However, the true scope of the city’s law breaking is only now becoming evident.

San Francisco’s juvenile probabtion department are actively trying to protect Honduran juveniles caught dealing crack and other offenses by using tax payer money to fly them home. This allows the dealers to avoid official deportation which allows them to re-enter the United States.

Rather than have the drug offenders deported, they have recommended that Juvenile Court judges and commissioners approve city-paid flights home to Honduras for the offenders with the aim of reuniting them with their families.

The practice, federal authorities say, does nothing to prevent offenders from coming back, while federal deportation legally bars them from ever returning. Federal officials also say U.S. law prohibits helping an illegal immigrant to cross the border, even if it is to return home.

Federal officials recently detained a San Francisco juvenile probation officer at the Houston airport, where he was accompanying two Honduran juvenile drug offenders about to board a flight to Tegucigalpa.

Some offenders have been caught and given a free flight home 3 or 4 times on the tax payer’s dime. This is a serious violation of federal law punishable by prison time, and the feds are in the midst of a serious investigation into the city.

This is yet another stunning example of just how crazy San Francisco has become. The rule of law of has become nothing more than a joke as the far-left has tightened its grip on the city.

McCain: “Carter Was a Lousy President”

June 27, 2008 · Filed Under Politics, U.S. News · Comment

It looks like the ‘Straight Talk Express’ is back on track and going strong. Jon Ralston had a sit down interview with McCain yesterday and the Senator did indeed deliver some stratight talk.

McCain on Carter:

Carter was a lousy president….This is the same guy who kissed Brezhnev….

I love it when people tell the truth about Jimmy Carter. It blows my mind when Democrats say that President Bush is the worst President in history. That’s laughable when you compare Bush’s record with Carter’s. Jimmy Carter was complete disastor both in foreign policy and domestic policy.

Here’s where things stood in 1980, Carter’s last year in office, and in subsequent periods:

Carter: Interest rate, 21%. Inflation, 13.5%. Unemployment, 7%. The so-called “Misery Index,” which Carter used to great effect in his 1976 campaign to win election, 20.5%.

I think that pretty much qualifies as “lousy”

Anderson Cooper Outed By Al Sharpton

While discussing James Dobson’s attacks on Barack Obama and the need to reach out to the Christian right, Al Sharpton said this to Anderson Cooper:

“I may have some very conservative personal feelings but I feel you have the right to live your life differently. I may think that what you do Anderson is gonna put you in Hell, but I’m gonna defend your right to get there.”

Cooper blushed before thanking Sharpton for his remarks. (See the video)

Supreme Court: Ban On Handguns “Incompatible” With Second Amendment

freedomcrop Supreme Court: Ban On Handguns Incompatible With Second Amendment

The Supreme Court struck down Washington D.C.’s ban on handguns as unconstitutional. Justice Scalia wrote the majority opinion saying in part that an outright ban on handguns is incompatible with the second amendement.

Writing for the majority, Justice Antonin Scalia said that an individual right to bear arms is supported by “the historical narrative” both before and after the Second Amendment was adopted.

The Constitution does not permit “the absolute prohibition of handguns held and used for self-defense in the home,” Scalia said. The court also struck down Washington’s requirement that firearms be equipped with trigger locks or kept disassembled, but left intact the licensing of guns.

Scalia noted that the handgun is Americans’ preferred weapon of self-defense in part because “it can be pointed at a burglar with one hand while the other hand dials the police.”

This was absolutely the right decision. There are few rights as fundamental to being an American as our right to keep and bear arms.

Unless you are a felon or mentally disabled in some way, the State can no longer prevent the ownership of handguns. Washington D.C. has had the strictest gun laws in the country with an outright ban on handgun ownership. Ironically, Washington D.C. is also home to the worst gun violence in America.

No state official yet has explained how the only place in America with an outright handgun ban has some of the worst handgun violence. The idea that no one will have a gun because it’s against the law is comical.

Criminals will continue to own firearms with or without gun laws, the only question is whether or not law abiding citizens will be able to protect themselves from gun toting criminals.

The Supreme Court has rightly concluded that Americans have a right under the Constitution to do just that.

Pelosi In Favor Of Bringing Back “Fairness Doctrine”

June 25, 2008 · Filed Under Liberals, Opinion, Politics, U.S. News · Comment

John Gizzi over at Human Events had the opportunity to speak with Nancy Pelosi yesterday. Gizzi asked her what she thought about Rep. Mike Pence’s bill to kill any future “Fairness Doctrine” proposals once and for all. She said his bill would not see the light of day and would not be allowed on the floor for a vote.

Pelosi went on to say that she’s in fact a strong supporter of bringing back the so-called “Fairness Doctrine.” For those who don’t know what the Fairness Doctrine is, let me briefly explain.

The Fairness Doctrine was ended under the Reagan Administration, but liberals have dreamt of bringing it back for decades. What it did was force radio stations to give equal time by law to opposing viewpoints. Meaning that if a radio station allows Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh to have 4 hours of air time, then by law that same radio station would have to allow a 4 hour block of time for a left-wing radio show as well.

The reason that’s completely insane is that it destroys the concept of free markets. Why should a radio audience be forced to listen to something they don’t want to? Right now the free market dictates who’s on the radio. If a liberal can attract listeners he/she is more than welcome to have a radio program.

Liberals want the Fairness Doctrine because they can’t get an audience on their own. So now they want the government to step in and force people to listen to what they have to say.

The irony here is that liberals control every single medium except talk radio, so it should be conservatives who want more “fairness.” But conservatives aren’t interested in the government telling anyone else what they have to listen to.

It’s pretty amazing that left-wingers aren’t content with owning the print media, network news, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, and a large chunk of the blogosphere.
