Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (dingy Harry) took to the floor of the Senate yesterday and compared Republican opposition to ObamaCare to the 1960s filibuster of civil rights legislation. He did what all liberals do when they get desperate — they cry racism.

That said, I’m glad Harry Reid pulled the race card this time. His phony comparison allows Republicans to remind the American people just who stood in the way of civil rights in the 1960s.

It was Southern Democrats led by one Robert Byrd who waged an 83-day filibuster of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. According to the WSJ, at final vote there were 29 Senators in opposition — 80% of them Democrats. Byrd, a former Klansmen, remains a Senator to this very day.

The party that claims to be the champion of black people has a very interesting history. President Obama should be relieved his party didn’t get their way back then or he wouldn’t be president today.
